DJ Receives Death Threat For Playing Dubstep

Well deserved!
quote:

It seems as if djing in the US is becoming a dangerous past time! LA Times has reported a U.S. female DJ Fei-Fei Wang has been inundated with death threats after playing dubstep at an Armin Van Buuren trance party at Beyond Wonderland!

This globally performed and internet broadcast party has spurred on a spate of personal attacks on Ms. Wang, some going as far as openly saying Someone take a shotgun to Fei-Fei.

Wang who has been djing for over 10 year on the US scene and has a masters in film production from USC expressed her shock from the reaction to the LA Times I didnt think I was gonna be receiving death threats on my Facebook. Thats harsh.

I guess this says, dont mess with the trance purists! your thoughts?

Not well deserved. AvB apparently was ok with her dj'ing this thing as he knew her style etc.

As for the trance purists wishing death on someone who plays music they don't like. LOL.

I know.

I am of the belief that says: Even though you don't like the majority of a certain genre that does not mean you cannot find a certain part of it that you can learn to enjoy. (Except gabber/hardcore, just kidding)

Anyone who takes public internet death threats seriously should have a shotgun taken to them.

when this happened it really pissed me off..

I think I started noticing it when a certain dj/producer posted they were "pro trance"

Behold, my arse.

I agree, that she should not have played Dubstep.

I'm sorry, but this is one of the few true trance events that really exist nowadays, and she had to go and fuck it up. Sure maybe Armin said he was ok with it, but he's a professional, and still treated her like one. She's got talent and I think that this should be merely something she would look back upon and hopefully regret. There are no techno sets, there are no house sets, there are not even psy-trance sets; all of which would have been a bit more acceptable to play considering the similarities in the beats, and crowds.

ASOT was built for trance lovers. Every single person attending this event was expecting trance all the way. When you don't get what you came for, people have the right to be pissed off... but wow, death threats are def over the line.

Posted by SPANIARD on Mar-24-2012 16:39:

No more threats of variation at trance events will be tolerated.

Pure trance bra.

Posted by mahalliner on Mar-24-2012 17:15:

Surprised I never heard anything about ATB dropping Rammstein - Du Hast at ASOT 500 in Miami. Frankly that's a bit more out of step with Trance than Dubstep would be, IMO. I mean seriously, tons of producers are putting out stuff with Dubstep drops in it these days.

Dub step at a trance party or any party that isn't dub step is a bad idea period. Dub step is a love or hate genre.

Not a fan of genre whoring but the scene should not tolerate death threats regardless.

I'm not that into dubstep but to each their own - tough call on the asot thing -- asot is all about trance and if fei-fei is leaning towards dubstep then a blend would have probably worked best? Dunno.

Posted by GGM on Mar-25-2012 22:30:

To be honest I don't see the big deal. Gareth has been tossing the odd dubstep track into some sets for over a year now and he still does some ASOT stuff. Is the moral of the story you can play what you want as long as you're already famous? Up and comers not so much?

Posted by MSZ on Mar-25-2012 22:32:

moral of the story is in this world people will always be irrational and there is nothing you can do to help it.

Sure a blend would've been best but why be pissed a the dj if she plays a certain genre at a party that's the compelte opposite? Blame whoever booked her.

Interesting replies after my post... I agree with all of them, lol
