iPad/iPhone Android phone/Tablet app recommendations, son
Inspired by movie recommendation thread...
An app for your smartphone is like an asshole - chances are you got one or you know someone who got one. So, recommend/warn away.
Recommend:
Obviously, the obvious ones out of the way first:
Pandora
Skype
Facebook
Google Earth
Netflix
Showtime on Demand
Angry Birds
Kayak
Sling Player
Moving to less obvious ones:
2X - best damn damn RDP client and it's free! If you work with Windows and/or want to have windows on your iPad - setup your Win7 system to allow it to be remotely controlled, load up 2X on your ipad and get your Win7 desktop on your iPad. Faaaaaaaantastic!
Osmosis - very cool and very chill game, especially if you're the kind that enjoys planets, trippy apps, etc. Great for a come down/chilling. Sadly, too short and gameplay gets a bit repetetive after a while. So, only for those moments when time seems to stretch indefinitely.
Wireles Keyboard Mouse - if you have a Mac/PC that you use for media center, connected to TV - this app will allow you to use it as a remote keyboard and mouse. Wooot!
Air Display - for $10, use your iPad as an extra display. Got 3 displays? Make iPad your 4th. Also useful to mirror what's going on on your screen but with touchability. Cool app.
Notability - great app for writing down notes, with recorder feature. Good for meetings/lectures/etc. Only $0.99 - worth much more.
Animoog - Awesome, fat and lush synth by Moog. 'nuff said.
Korg iElectribe - bought it back when it was $10 - nice toy, if you're Electribe fan/like making beats.
What do you recommend?
Fucking Apple hipsters.

Draw Something.
For android phones, you'll want an app called 'Player Pro'
Its completely customizable. It's way better than *any* mp3 player software i've ever seen.

AContact - great third party dialer (especially if you don't have the Touchwiz one)
Airpush Detector - useful for detecting apps that spam you
Dolphin Browser - only browser that's worth anything on Android
Kingsoft Office - for all your doc, pdf, xls, etc needs
Mantano Reader - useful reader meant for PDF books (better than kingsoft in that regard)
Pansi SMS - nice texting app. Gives you the option of using the modern chat bubbles or the old school way of texting (inbox, outbox, sent, drafts)
MX Video player - plays everything I've thrown at it
Transit Now Toronto - if you live in Toronto and use the TTC then this is a MUST. Real time GPS tracking of streetcars and buses (you can see where they are on a map + there's a counter)
Tonido - browse your PC file system remotely. stupidly easy to set up.
Tasker and Total Commander (for Andriod of course)
shazam
viber
wheres my water
camscanner
beatport
whatsapp
Apart from the usual ones i use these on my android devices.
Whatsapp - instant messaging
Skype
HandyCalc - for when the usual phone calculator isnt enough
MathPac+ - for when the above mentioned graph calculator isnt enough
AndroZip - obviously to unrar and unzip archives directly on the phone/tablet
VLC Direct - for media streaming
Cool Reader - for reading books
Pocket Manga - for reading manga
iGo MyWay - GPS navigation
FPse - Playstation 1 emulation
Just came to say this
Epicurious
MagicPlan
Flipboard
Dropbox / Skydrive
Evernote
Mint.com
all useful and not dogshit apps
they need to make a section in store
"dogshit" "not dogshit"
95% of apps in the dogshit the rest in not dogshit.
Bloomberg
TripIt Pro
FlightTrack Pro
SkyScanner
British Airways
TripAdvisor City Guides

unified remote- android- you can contol your computer remotely ( mouse keyboard, media players etc)

Replaced the stock android music app with ZPlayer. Looks like a WP7 music player, but with the benefit that you dont actually need to use WP7 and Zune which is a great plus. Its quzite good, has a couple of functions still missing (like deleting songs directly from the app, and storing podcasts on the sd card instead of just streaming them), but ultimately worth the 2,5 euros.
