There is already a 22 page thread on this in the cd music discussion forum. FYI best song is only available on the deluxe edition to purchase through his website on the bonus ep. Its called evolution and the melody is really close to innercity-big fun with the last note being different i believe.

I don't travel to that forum too often. Thanks for pointing it out to me!!

Much love for PVD and the ALBUM!!

I'm guessing that's you in the pic with PvD?

You should make it your avatar/profile pic and show Looney4Clooney you do have other pics

you must like classic trance. That song was pretty good. I went back and listened to it again. But such a harsh POV for the rest of the CD.

he's right though. old school pvd (circa late 90s) is the best trance producer I've ever heard imo. but this "trouse" shit is the worst thing he's put out thus far

its amazing how many of the greats have turned to pop in order to remain relevant. the same one's that scolded everything to do with the mainstream back in the day. this is more like a de-evolution lol

How does it differentiate from the rest of the vocal trance out there? What is better than the latest Armin van Buuren? Or Above & Beyond albums which were pretty much all-vocal?

At least he has the decency not to call his music for "trance"

I don't really care what PvD is up to, really. I've never been a fan, but I don't avoid him like the plague. There was just a certain statement I just want to adress so badly.

Videlicet:

I just hate when people use that word. Devolution is a scientifically incorrect term used by creationists to validate the myth of Genesis. Evolution doesn't mean improvement, it means gradual adaptation to the surrounding environment.

In this case, PvD found himself in a social ecosystem where mainstream appeal is essential for survival. None of us may like this fact, but it's for the same reason dinosaurs are extinct and their descendants are birds. That sucks as well, but neither that is something you could call devolution.

Also, there's no such things as talent. Masterpieces are products of hard work, dumb luck and appropriate inspirations. That means it's a sheer coincidence for when, where and from who they appear.

That's bullshit. PvD has been a multi, multi millionaire for a long time. He has a giant-ass brand/name and shitloads of money, there is no excuse for releasing shit music apart from being greedy, lazy and self-absorbed. Same goes for all the other superstar-jocks gone shit like Tijs and Armin.

you know what i mean. its a regression in both quality and originality...call it what you will.

It's true that PvD isn't really short of resources or attention and the he can't justify the low standards of his works. I never said that he has the right to make bad music. However, dismissing him as a bad person, is something I consider a rather narrow, cynical and non-scientific explanation of the current situation.

Even though PvD has a large fan base that will nod to anything he plays and makes, he still somehow fear they will leave him if he doesn't submit to mass appeal. He's not greedy, he's paranoid.

I presume that the environment PvD gained his brand value in, has been heavily influenced by a "Get-Rich-Or-Die-Trying"-mentality. If that's the case, it would mean that he was forced to abandon his creative passion in order to keep his new-won status. It seems like Gollum was playing Sméagol a few dirty tricks that day.

People are reading too much into an average or below average album because PVD made it. A good analogy is someone like the Rolling Stones. Once they made some of the best songs of their genres, like PVD did in EDM, but one day old age etc catches up and their new material is no longer fresh but desperately attempting to catch up with whats hot and new and in the process loses all the genius of their original works. But once in a while you get snippets of that old genius, like the Evolution track which is lethal. At the end of the day, like the Rolling Stones, PVD still is great live and worth paying attention to but dont expect new masterpieces but just enjoy how great Seven Ways in, just like you would enjoy Sticky Fingers and not care about how poor the new Rolling Stone track is.

Tiesto owns PvD any day.

Been listening to this album several times now, never liked PvD but i thought id give this a fair chance. Its full of clichès, not particulary well produced.. sounds very airy and light, vocal tracks are not memorial at all, and i do like vocal trance a lot.

Only track worth mentioning for me is 'Rock This' it doesnt have the same clichè sounds, nice piano and i quite like the 'Another You Another Me' bass progression.

Tiesto and PVD are distinctly different dj's now. Tiesto went "Maximal Crazy" and PVD went "All the Way". Its like comparing steak w/ brisket.

Anyways, this is still by far my favorite PVD Track:

Is Paul Van Dyk going to start the German House Mafia soon?

Posted by jayxthekoolest on Apr-10-2012 00:38:

the album is pretty much what i would expect from pvd. it was solid, although nothing great or special. kind of not impressive given that he worked on it for 5 years and pays other people to engineer the tracks for him. if he had produced it in 1-2 years, i would have been impressed. also, not much of an "evolution". he is pretty much just going with the flow and changed his production style in accordance with every other producer in edm. my favorite track was the first one - "symmetries".

*ahem*
edit:
quote:
CHECK THIS TRACK OUT: "I Don't Deserve You" features contemporary Christian singer-songwriter Plumb. Her vocals soar to the rafters and van Dyk plays off her pure tones perfectly. He supports her with a gentle build of synthesizer work and a crescendo so lush you can't help but smile. Plumb emerges as the star on an album of fading lights.

This has potential.

Going by your current signature, I suppose you're not looking forward to this Saturday, then.

Yeah, because your shit amateur psycho-analysis of a man you've never met is extremely scientific.

I'm beginning to think Paul Van Dyk was always a bit of a cheesy bastard, and it was only the nurturing A&R of Mark Reeder that kept him on the deep and trancey for so long. Ever since he left MFS the quality of his output has plummeted.
