Mac Mini - What's the catch? (NOT a GAS thread!)
Off the back of a thread I was reading on another forum I noticed you can now get an i7 (2ghz) Mac Mini that'll take 2 HDDs and has firewire, USB and thunderbolt connectivity. Ok so the catch is it'll only take 8GB Ram but that's plenty for EDM.
I might get one just for teh dance stuff
Don't buy. An update to the line is close according to Macrumors.

It'll never be as cost-efficient as a build-it-yourself PC, but it's plenty powerful enough for audio production. If I was getting a new PC I'd make sure it had a SSD though for faster loading of sample libs.
If you are getting the i7 with 8GB RAM, it won't be cheap. $1,699.00 for that config with a 256 GB SSD. $1,099.00 without SSD.
[edit]
Okay $899 for the base mode i7.
2.7GHz Dual-Core Intel Core i7
4GB 1333MHz DDR3 SDRAM - 2x2GB
500GB Serial ATA Drive
Add more RAM and an SSD yourself. It'll still go over $1111. I can't find any main bus speed specs but it's bound to be equivalent to a laptop.
if you are an idiot and buy your upgrades with apple
They're charging 160 ($250) to upgrade from 4 to 8GB over here. You can buy 8GB of good, branded 1600mhz DDR3 for 35 which still doesn't compare as they're effectively charging you 160 for 4GB of upgrade.
I may still buy an i7 minimacca though just to run Login for EDM, I can plug it into my Bravia and play producer on the sofa too then.
I'll still build a PC for the other stuff though.
i bought a new macbook pro. The I7 doesn't even come close to my 2009 mac pro. It is handy for doing work on airplanes tho. I did a flash video of a girl and a guy having sex stick man style on the plane ride. My girlfriend was not impressed.

Hackintosh! It's easier than ever these days.
might as well just use a pc.
It is great!![]()
I'm pretty much sold on the idea of grabbing one just for doing EDM in logic.
not sure why this wasn't my response. The answer to the question is you.
Well I am a catch, I agree.
OMG, like super intense Deja vu. I read this thread and was able to say the final post from Geoff out loud before scrolling down.
Either that, or I have become one with the matrix of Richie and Geoff which is a really sad thought.
Resilience is fertile.

too bad you aren't black. I'm currently looking for a black friend that is also a hip hop artist. Has to be cool but like not too cool that he smokes crack and shit. Like Andre 3000. Snappy dresser, can dance, and do all the things you think black people would do but not violent or a thug. But ya, oh well.
i put an add out for a black friend and got pictures of dicks. Like literally dicks.
So what you're saying is you won't be my friend because I'm not black?
That's just racialismist.
i have 1 spot with a criteria you don't meet unfortunately. I already have a limey that forgets his wallet at home every time we go for pints.
You wouldn't have to worry about that. You'd never physically get near me or my family anyway. You smell like bad news in real life. Real needy and not at all like the net armour.

if you wanna save even more money, buy a refurbished Mac Mini from apple.com , comes with the same warranty as a new one.
I have a 27inch imac , 13 inch macbook pro, both almost 2 years old and bought refurbished. Never had a problem with either one, not a scratch was even on it. You couldn't even tell the difference between a new one.
The trick of course will be finding an i7 Mac Mini on the refurb page
