Dave King - Entropy 13/04/2012

On Friday I had the privilidge of playing at JonDCs night in Birmingham, it was a lot of fun! My set seemed to go down quite well so I did a reconstruction last night (whilst nursing a pretty large hangover) and share it with people. Enjoy!

I'm really pleased you re-did this for me Dave. It was one of the best sets I've heard for a very long time. Totally unique; I had goosebumps all over for Hosanna and Ganduri! You deserve to be packing out stadiums

Can't wait to hear this again, we couldn't get enough when you played it live.

As an aside, that Unconscious Minds track sounds so much like Sasha - Fundamental, it's even in the same key. Have an experimental mix of them - I bet they slot together absolutely perfectly.

Great set. I really wish I could have seen it live, I'm sure it would have been

You really kept the intensity up; lots of peaks with a few valleys so people could relax for a second before dancing again. Track of the set to me was Bad Tango - Analogue Hedgehog (LuQas Remix), the way that heavy psychedelic riff hits with those bomb high-energy breaks made it all worthwhile. Super cool. Lots of other great tracks in there too. Excellent mix. And I agree with Jon, you should be the headliner at massive shows!

Jesus Christ this was excellent.

I just downloaded it without looking at the TL and was very pleasently surprised when Turn Me On came on. Fantastic song and you did an excellent job of bringing it in. Thought the whole thing was awesome. I would definitely LOVE to see you live someday. This was just amazing.

Thanks for giving me hope for contemporary trance/music/etc

Yea I've listened back 3 times now already. When I drove to work on Monday I had to go around the block a couple of times to get to the end of it, because I was loving it so much!

Still can't believe this happened on my night - completely awesome. The mixing is beyond my comprehension. It's like Paul Van Dyk on a good day, but obviously with significantly better music and set progression.

I hope loads more people listen to this!

Jon, did you ever listen to Dave's mix, Arcadia?

Yea I did. I've been following his mixes for a while as he is probably my favourite TA DJ.

I'm listening and loving the aggression so far after 10 minutes! Extremely promising.

As an aside, what's the deal with this night? Any plans for more? I'm based in London but would love to go to an event with some great trance/progressive played by talented (relative) unknowns.

Djdk did it again.

www.facebook.com/EntropyEDM

'Like' the Facebook page to find out about upcoming events. I also always post them in the events forum here.

It runs every other month on the second Friday. I set it up because I was playing at a lot of small nights that were really badly programmed and I thought I could do it better. Its basically all about diverse music and progression. I book people who play house, techno, trance, psy etc, and try to cater for everyone. There is always a good chunk of serious underground music along with more typical dancefloor friendly stuff.

It's been going for over a year now and its doing well. Im really glad to have a platform for people like Dave to play out :-)

Cheers, I've liked.

Any plans to run a show in London town?

None at present. Its tough enough getting people out of bed in my own city so I'm not sure how easily I could promote a night in London. Much as I would love to! Do you know any venues with good footfall so a few posters in the place would do the job?

Thanks everyone for the kind words, really, it means a lot

Jon, have a look at these two...

The Raving Buddah in Shepherds Bush is pretty good in terms of location. Right on the high street and has a bit of a reputation now.

The Star Of Kings in Kings Cross is a little further out of the way (although not much) but does have a very cool basement.

Both have real ale on tap so clearly thats a plus

Looks interesting. I might give you a bell about this soon

Why aren't there any places like that where I live?

(Well, there are, but nobody cool comes and plays... except Tiger & Woods came last month but I never got to go )

Personally, I don't think trance works in a bar context at all. If you're going to move the venue, it really needs to be a club.

By the way Dave, this was just as good listening through again at home. I'm still in awe of people who can play 2 or 3 minutes of a 7-8 minute track and then move on without it sounding ridiculous. For me it's a sign of top class DJing to eschew the designated mix in/out points and turn a track into your own tool.

What about the psychedelic breaks of Mr. Dave King?

Posted by SYSTEM-J on Apr-20-2012 14:33:

.

Breaks work better, but I still want to hear a set like this in some low-ceiling, grimey basement club. Besides, Entropy is Jon's night, not Dave's.

I totally agree, unfortunately someone appears to have hacked the website while I was at lunch but the Star does have the perfect basement...

Its nowhere near as clean as that photo suggests either heh

Posted by JonDC on Apr-20-2012 15:35:

I thought the Star looked pretty good.

I don't mind trance in a bar, as long as there is a proper area that people can dance and have an atmosphere etc. That's one of the things I love about my venue - when you go outside it basically is a club. It's just a little unfortunate that it happens to be called 'the Wagon & Horses', and shuts at 2:00!

Apologies for hijacking the thread by the way!
