So, I'm going to have an Aussie roommate for a month.

My roommate is subleasing his room for a month while he goes away for business. I guess some dude from Australia found his ad on craigslist and is coming here to do research.

He's on the plane, right now.

Being as there are a few Aussies on here, how can I make this guy's stay as pleasant and welcoming as possible. What should I expect from my new guest?

Try to act as little like yourself as possible.

Maybe he'll surprise you and import one of those bird spiders

Being Australian, chances are your roomie will be pretty laid back. I wouldn't worry to much. If you want to hospitable, maybe show him around a bit. I seem to remember that you don't drink, so I guess taking him to bars or whatever won't really be your thing.

If he's down for it I'll be more than happy to have beer(s) with him.

I'm curious about what kind of research he's here for. I think that will determine how "laid back" he is.

He better take a hit if I pass him the joint.

He's probably coming for the Computer Science program.

Ok cool, well take him to a bar or two and chill, break the ice, whatever. He's Australian, so he'll drink

I'd say you guys sent over a pretty damn good representative; very cool guy.

He lives in the Redfern part of Sydney. He's been lagging in publishing some stuff for his PhD. in material engineering, so his professor sent him here to do research and get it done.

Not sure if this will ring a bell with you, but when we went out to get beer the first night he made a huge deal of Sierra Nevada being so cheap in comparison to how much it is there.

Yeah, alcohol is fucking expensive over here. A six pack of Heineken is like $16 Not sure about Sierra Nevada, my local places don't stock it, though I think one of them is getting it in soon.

Glad he turned out to be cool then.
