That's quite the mismatch for whoever organised that one. Marquee is one of the biggest cheese bookers out there.

"..Even Deadmau5 has his price, as the electro/prog house titan reportedly netted $100,000 for dropping Bon Jovi’s “Livin’ On a Prayer” at XS last year, upon a VIP’s request."

lolled hard at this

It sounds like he didn't even get to go on.

"Supposed to be going on now...but got the boot, ..."

So at least he didn't cause the outrage.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/new...-champagne.html

"Don Johnson, a professional gambler and businessman, chalked up a £168,118 bill when he paid a visit to Park Lane's OneForOne nightclub on Sunday night.

However, according to a friend, the 49-year-old bon viveur - known as The Champagne King - doesn't even like the taste of champagne.

Mr Johnson, who was in town visiting rock star pal Bon Jovi, heard the nightclub had recently commissioned the biggest bottle of champagne ever made, the Armand De Brignac Midas - equivalent to 40 regular bottles which weighs 45kg.

After polishing off a £25,000 six litre bottle of champage, Johnson moved on to the mammoth Midas, taking up a microphone and whipping the club into a frenzy.

Nik Krasniqi, floor manager at the £950-a-year members club, said: "Everyone was gathered round his table and he was on the microphone singing Bon Jovi songs, screaming I love London. "

ahahah

I think that is pretty awesome...I would have loved it if a DJ brought out some old school rock party tune in the middle of a set just to mess things up a little. It only works if its one of those timeless classics that everyone could get sing along with and go nuts to though.

Posted by geroin on Jun-04-2012 21:05:

i totally sidetracked my own thread

Nowadays it seems you gotta do research on venue before you decide whether you eant to see a particular dj. Thats sad

Agreed. I see no problem with having some fun up there on the decks, the "scene" takes itself way too seriously sometimes. The risk, of course, is doing it too often or choosing the wrong song.

it is awesome.... these guys are dj's they should be able to mix it up and drop in a random classic of any genere.... a good song is a good song.... it would be nice if the trank matched the given dj's style...
thats what i like seeing...

Yeah, I think its one of those things you can only do once in awhile and it really does need to be a track that most people are going to know so they can share in the screaming and singing.

Can't say I'm surprised unfortunately. The part that really gets me down about this is that Dennis Ferrer and Mark Farina can play some stuff that is extremely commercial influenced. Check this out from Farina (everyone already knows about the commercial success of Ferrer so I don't think that I have to explain).

That doesn't seem very far from the commercial world and most of the stuff I've seen from him on youtube have been along similar lines. Pretty worrying stuff if this is stretching the underground boundaries. Imagine if Digweed or Sasha or Cox played one of these parties lol.

I'd rather hear a D.J drop this 100 times over the top 40 dance b.s hands in the air, neon in your face track.lol

Haha if Sasha was asked to gig one of these and was asked to play "less housey" he'd probably laugh in their face and play whatever he wanted.

(I'd at least ensure something specific in my rider would say that the promoter or management of said venue is not allowed to dictate what I play or something to that effect). Otherwise why bring the dj there to begin with?

Damned bottle service "VIP" douches.

They didn't. He got paid and didn't have play anything he didn't want to.

In the end the booking agent for Marquee is the one to blame here. Know your customers and how to please them.

I saw Deep Dish drop White Stripes - Seven Nation Army (the orig mix)at Aria in Montreal and it blew the place up. It definitely can be done right, and can make for a great memorable experience.

Kicked off the decks at Tryst in Vegas tonight for not playing Carly Rae Jepsen + hip hop
