Caleb Golston - Mega (Original Mix) [Be Critical]

I uploaded a few ideas in the past two months that have fallen through. I want to go to the next level and really push myself so I am not settling for anything less than a professional track. If that takes 2 years from now than that is what it is going to be. I waited until I had a good amount of the song complete to post this time. Any criticism is appreciated.

Hey I've tried a few times here but the link is blank?

Track needs to start out with a kick drum

the intro is paced too slowly

the lead doesn't sound loud enough or something

there's not much syncopation in the track to give it bump

the lead idea should be introed earlier

you need more content in the track to keep it interesting

K thanks for that. I have come up with some layers to add while listening while driving. The only disagreement I have is that I am using Arty 'Around the World' (the full 8+ minute version) as a guide and he intro's the lead exactly when I did, about 2:30 into the track.

Thanks Rich.

If this turns out I will be making a much shorter Radio Edit and a Remix which focuses on elements in the intro.

I just think its easier.

You have to think to that there's DJs that are still gonna beatmatch via kick drum, and generally warping is easier on a basic kick than it is with percussion only or a motif.

Oh, I agree about the kick, I already added it I was talking about when the lead comes in.

Add something to the second climax as well, its quite boring like this.

Yeah, I am trying to. It I am having a hard time fitting something in right now.

I updated the track with some of the suggestions. Main thing was I cut the sub from the lead and it seemed to give more energy.

Posted by Storyteller on Jun-22-2012 16:38:

Well done. I like the chords and the sounds. Very original vibe to it. Both climax need more energy in my opinion. Other than that you've got a winner that could get some interesting support if you make it end up in the right inbox.

What I think this track needs is a bit more big room feel. Try and make the chords sound wetter. More reverb and delay, maybe even a bit longer release on the climax as well. It's just to dry to give it that massive feel, also I'd look into finding a different bassline pattern, if not for the first then definitely for the second climax. Problem is the outro has more energy than de climax that came before it. It has teh awesome.

The only part of the song I really like is the transition to the outro

Thanks for the advice on adding delay and reverb. I have worked on it ALOT over the past few days and hit a brick wall and that helps.

I want it to be big room/main stage. Can't seem to get the climaxes right though.

Trying to give it a 'Big Room Reconstruction' errr I think there's a DJ that already uses that phrase...

As for remixing I would LOVE that. I send PM about it.

Great track, but bit too sweet still, like ST. Is Sabine, more verb and probably sidechain the heck out of those main stabs. Think Tisto 6 years ago.

What software are you using to create your music ?
If i know then it's easier to give tips on what to do.

From what i hear till now you try to create hard style.
The lead is a hard style one.
But the drums are very soft for hard style.
First thing i'd do would be to give it a real kick
The kick you use now is more a snare drum than a kick

Most producers use that kick in breaks or at the intro
3;15 would be a spot to add an extra harder kick
Then you got a very long intro but you get it off the ground.
Without a harder kick to me it sounds like this plane is taxing on the runway.
With the harder kick in there you get it off the ground hihi

This style of music makes you want to dance ,jump.
And a snaredrum is not punch full enough to give the needed bite

This example is Hard Style-Jump not your goal i guess
Because this kick is very heavy
But the build up of the song is similar ,starts with snare-intro
For YOUR harder kick ,i would listen to Sean Tyas
He plays hard trance in his old sets.
And thats the typa kick that perfectly suits this one imho
Thats more powerful uplifting kick work instead of hardcore

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pcIF7-VFrs8

Next week i'll up some trax of mine in this genre.
Perhaps it gets you some idea's for your song.
Done some creative things with a song in this style that you don't hear much haha

Here is a harder track i done [Softer than Tyas kick ,but also punch enough for your track]
Not many different sounds or many drums
But the lead is telling whole story ,to not get it boring.
And i moved the tyming of the notes to a unique position.
Thats gives it a unique swing to it [Bad Leg Dance hihi]
Some more changes or added instruments would fit your track too imo
This one is rather empty too but not boring cos the notes tell a story
So are not playing same melody all the time

I use Fruity Loops. I appreciate the advice but I am making music that is more current than jumpstyle. I like the kick I am using already. It might need to be turned up but I think it is appropriate for the track.

My drums are in the style (but certainly not as well produced) of this and other recent Arty tracks:

Your kiks are very old fashioned as are your synths. This is a wind up right?

Posted by PassiePassion on Jun-23-2012 16:26:

Yeah that Arty track also has that typa kick.
Then you have a different goal in thought lol
Not my taste of music ,I like punchy kicks.

@ Richard
Your kiks are very old fashioned as are your synths.
This is a wind up right?

Yeah that example song is very old. So logic.
Thats T-Pulse VSTi from 2006 rather rare now i think lol
Example was about the note changes 1 sound ,many melodies.
I give an example ,said a Sean Tyas typa kick would better suit it.
And i like old fashioned sounds ,Classic Trance.
But did get the armada-Uplifting sample set to get some new kicks

A wind up ?
Whats a wind up ?
If you mean a joke ,,nope
I like stronger kicks ,so like Sean Tyas old songs as example.
So the opinion was not to make fun ,but to give my opinion.

The member posted at my topic
So then i think it's only fair to check and comment on one of his topics
So curtency i think they call it in English ,not to joke
I'm not a person like that ,Else i wouldn't use so many words ,spend so much time on it.

I really like where this is going - for some reason I got the feeling that this may be your prime track so far (all depended on the final direction you will take with it).

You got to take this to another level (with/in the finishing stage of your production) - good luck man.

Yeah, I feel like I can't do what it takes to take it to the next level. Thanks for the critical feedback!

Listening to dope beats like this one encourages me to buy a new laptop and get back to producing.
