how come so few people understand trance?!

very often i hear people saying "how can you listen to that shit, it's always the same, it's boring with all those beats"

this is just freaking me out, trance is all about melody and unique sounds. yet nobody seems to realize that. yesterday at brussels is burning, the bass was that hard that most of the time you couldn't hear any other sounds than the beat. that's a real pity, i think. i like a hard beat once in a while, but not in a trance track.

trance is about composition, not about 4/4 beats.

it seems as though a lot of people, and especially belgian party-organizers, have some serious listening to do...

The unfortunate reality of the situation is that most people have the intellectual capacity of a pair of socks.

Posted by Cellarius on Sep-07-2002 20:07:

First of all most people don't know what is trance. They think that is just BAM BAM BAM from the speakers and nothing more.
People can't or even don't want to understand what real elecronic music culture means. They have some old stereotypes about electronic dance music, and you'll never change them.
Just ignore those people, trying to change their point of view it's just a waste of time and energy.

Dont think about it, they just dont know....
Just like you maybe dont know what metalheads think of their music.
See...

Trance is also about how the music drives you to a different world...................I need my daily dose of trance to keep my energy up all day!! People have to listen to trance and realize how this music will change their state of mind!!

I love all kinds of music but I really think I can't live without TRANCE

FUCK KNOWS

This thread seems to coem around all the time, and i i guess it just comes down to the fact we liek wot we like, and if someoen doesnt feel the tingle down there spine for trance, and they do for sommit else who are we to argue.

if we all liked the same things it would b a boring world

IMO people dont understand Trance because the genre is associated with the commerical cheese that we piss on. Since cheese is shit, people think trance in general is shit.

i busted out laughing when i read that..and to a point its true

but not all people are hopeless my parents for one dont mind it. my dad was working on his computer and he started playng a trance playlist i had on there awhile back. he went through sunrise at palamos, missed beat (dumonde remix) and said he didnt mind listening to it while he worked. i thought it was pretty cool so i put in ISOS 2 and 3 for him...didnt want to freak him out with anything to hard.

my mom doesnt mind what i listen to, she was actually eager to know about the genre she leans more toward ambient stuff though.

and then there are the inoramuses who just dont get it and are like "trance is gay" such a great argument they have....

Glad I could give you a chuckle. You make a good point that there are plenty of people out there who DO have an open mind. My brother is mostly into alternative, but he absolutely loves Gouryella - Gouryella, and my roommate is getting pretty addicted to Chicane.

It's usually the people who don't really listen that don't understand trance at all. The sad point I was trying to make is that there are a lot of them.

i guess its just a matter of opion and how you get your kicks in music. i mean i cant stand that slip knot and mudvayne and all that junk. ive listen to it and tryed to under stand heavy metal, but i just think its so unfilling, trance leaves me differently than i was before. heavy metal just leaves me angry or in a badd mood. other people it calms them down.

also i think it has to do with trance being so underground...

Love Poundin' Sensation

If someone doesn't understand trance then it is their loss. They will miss out on one of the best things in life.

But I know what you mean though. For me it is hard because I love the feelings trance gives me and want to share that feeling with everyone I love, but they just don't get it, so I am stuck only talking about it and sharing feelings about it here.

I tend do disagree with that statement. Most people down your local love cheesy tracks such as Fragma, Darude, Ian van Dahl etc. Play some real trance and they'll go 'WTF is this repetitive crap?'. Anyway, who care. I just call them 'unenlightened'. Ignorant fools!

Posted by dj kinetica on Sep-08-2002 10:55:

it takes a while to build =/ and to get the full effect you gotta listen to the whole song but people dont wanna take the time to listen to the whole thing =/

Posted by david.sound on Sep-08-2002 11:00:

well, americans dont like trance because they already got punk and rock and rap and all that crap. bleh!

NuFF Said...
