Weren't the bracelets $200 before?
anyways, I'm thinking of going this year since I have the first two weeks of the year off, is the bracelet worth it?
edit:
and found 14 days, 4* hotel, close to $1900!

Yeah. All included!! Rediculous price. On top of it the flight leaves the 3rd, BPM starts the 4th.
I have no idea how the alcohol works, although I'm pretty sure it's not included outside the hotel with the bracelet. Im curious if alcohol, and other... Things... Is expensive there...

I'll pm you tomorrow when I recheck everything!
but I found another alternative,
flights for 500$ + apartment for 1100 for 2 weeks ON 5th ave, which is the main street, including transport from the airport to there (45 minutes aways, 65$ by cab).
I'm exploring all possible alternatives, as I don't know if the all inclusive at a "reasonable price" will even be worth it. Playa doesn't seem that expensive, and I prefer the "real" vacation feel, to the all inclusive feel...

| Originally posted by mindspin1 Don't stay in a condo. You can get an all inclusive package and they cook, clean, and serve you booze 24/7. Why would anyone want to grocery shop on a vacation. You can get great deals and have all your food and drinks included. I've stayed at 6 resorts there adn the food is fine. Did the condo thing and it's not worth it. It gets very sandy and dirty you need someone cleaning your room daily. |

Thing is, most resorts are in "Playacar" which I hadn't realized till a few days ago, isn't exactly Playa del Carmen, it's a secluded resort/golf area that's fenced in. Downtown is around a 20 minute walk from there. I have found resorts in Playa del Carmen but they're either: A. Insanely Expensive (I'm Semi on a budget - wanna get a condo lol) B. Not the best reviews. C. Not directly on the beach (I'm a beach bum) |
yeah, but I guess I'ts about proximity. If I wanna go for a walk downtown, all my stuff will be so far, whereas if I get an apt, I just have to go back and get whatever I need.
I mean, walking around a resort gets boring. I guess I'm just not really a resort person. I gotta figure my shit out.
I just feel that "all-inclusives" aren't real vacations, I've mostly ever travelled to Europe. I've only been to one inclusive, and I feel like it gets so boring. Vs staying in the actual city, there's always something to do, visit.
One of my big negative points is to be stuck using the public beach, vs being in a resorts private beaches.

I went last year and got to see Burridge for free (no admission price) at a beach party with Matthew Dekay, and also got to see My Favourite Robot for free at Cannibale Royale. We were very discrete about the free booze we brought in from our all-inclusive, about a 10 min walk away. We paid to go to the cave party and to see Behrouz. Both we found to be very reasonably priced. Unless you plan to hit 2-3 parties EVERY single day you're there, I think the bracelets are very overpriced. We stayed at palace resorts (right beside Senior Frogs) and while not cheap, were very impressed with the location, service, 24/7 food. Our friend had a timeshare there and as a result of this we got a significant discount.
so Im narrowing down my stay, I know it's early but condos/appartments are already selling out for those dates, fast.
All-Inclusive:
4* Downtown
1 Block/1 min walk from beach, right off Main Street (5th Ave)
14 Days
$1919 each ... but the reviews are up and down.
Total:
$3838 + (2x350$)$700 for Bracelets:
$4538
Appartment:
On 5th ave, with airport transfer included
maid service once per week
free bottled water dispensers refilled upon request
wifi
Total:
1134$ + flights +/- $650 each + 700$
$3134
4538-3134= 1404 extra spending money.
Thing is, I don't know how expensive Playa is, in the sense of dining out, etc. I checked a few of the suggested Restaurants from BPM's site, I'm guessing they are the more expensive ones.
and it seems not too, too bad.
As for alcohol, rumor has it $8 for a bottle of rum,
even less for a bottle of vodka.
Hotel Alcohol apparently is really watered down, unless in the expensive hotels.
Now I need opinions from people who've been, cause I feel like I'm talking to myself here. lol

I guess I'll stick to the bracelet. Any idea if the bracelet works for the cave parties?
Did you go to go bars & restaurants?
I believe the bracelet works for the cave party as I think recalling it is an official BPM event. I suggest you do the math and figure out how many events you want to hit (they average aprox between 25-40 USD) and then determine if the bracelet is indeed saving you money. I hope they continue to have free events!
We hit a restaurant once and did not hit any bars as our all-inclusive had several and their mojitos (among many other drinks, wine) were amazing !
If you're doing this many calculations you can't afford it. Go another time.
