So this is why canada sucks at olympics.

Our citizens get to be children.

http://imgur.com/a/emAVG not really NSFW but kind of awful...

A lot of that is obviously material, but a few of those are clearly photoshopped.

Either way, I have no doubt that training like this is common practice in China.

I'm really quite in favour of disqualifying China from everything, ever.

Yep, it's pretty bad.

I really hope the International Olympic Committee and other governing bodies launch a full investigation into how the Chinese treat their future Olympians because this is pretty despicable.

And there's the answer...

Posted by Halcyon+On+On on Aug-02-2012 21:07:

Yes, a sitting, red teddy bear wearing a funny hat. BUT WHAT DOES IT MEAN?!?!

Posted by Lira on Aug-02-2012 21:08:

Gold

Abso-fucking-lutely! The more I look into this, the more truly disturbing things I find.

I mean, I knew their training regimes were strict, but from what I've looked at over the past 30mins... fuck......

Surely overambitious parents and high pressure to perform are not a purely Asian invention.

Haha, I missed that

Posted by Lira on Aug-02-2012 21:14:

This all looks a lot better in P&G's advert:

Except... why is it that the Brazilian kid lives in a slum?! It would make sense if he played football, but I'm not sure volleyball is even popular in most favelas, and I don't even know why I'm taking this advert so seriously

Posted by Looney4Clooney on Aug-02-2012 21:14:

every olympic athlete leads a pretty fucking grim life. All that fucking time to run good so you can impress people that don't care any other day. I just don't understand what sort of human being it would take to encourage someone to throw their life away to get a fucking medal doing something that adds no value to humanity.

RUN FAST. BRING HONOUR TO FAMILY.

Posted by OrangestO on Aug-02-2012 21:15:

I hadn't seen pics of these presumed practices.

Assuming you meant "invention", it's actually rather possible the Asians invented it:

Unlike you, I'm sure impressing people is the last thing on their minds when growing up and training to be the best in their respective sports.

go to a ballet school. You will see the same. Well maybe not so young, but young enough. But at least they do something that adds to humanity. Running fast, throwing shit far, dancing in the water, i mean i know it takes practice, but i can't not think why the fuck do people care.

i was referring to the fucking concept you twit. And if being validated was not so fucking important, you wouldn't see so many people cry when they lose. impressing people is all they fucking have. Because other than that, their life has no fucking meaning what so ever. They are defined by doing that stupid task really really really fucking good. A task that outside of the olympics , has less worth than a street drummer. THeir whole life's work culminates to a 30 second event. I mean that is beyond fucked up. And some events, i mean how is running fast impressive ? or jumping far. Or throwing shit really far. Swimming fast. I"m sure it takes alot of practice, so would being able to balance a fucking tv on your head. Why is that not in the olympics.

except foodball and the people that do all those flips.

Really?! You can see why ballet is good but not sports!?

Err, wut? Yeah, I meant invention, and I guess you just wanted to link that article for general interest, because paleontology has nothing to do with any of this.

Anyway, these images seem like a cheap attempt at emotional manipulation and are nothing you wouldn't find in the west as well. Also, I'm far from convinced that an education without discipline and pressure is the one way. Yeah, I said it: better a Chinese world record swimmer than a fat American kid that plays video games all day.

One i

ballet adds culture, running fast, i 'm really not sure what the fuck that is adding. the olympics are entertainment. Like gladiators in rome. Ballet, as cruel as the training might be yields something artistic which will invariably be more valuable than sport. Nobody talks about a football game that happened 100 years ago. People do talk about art that happened 100 years ago. So ya, i do think it is quite different, one is art, the other is just entertainment. Humans need to get over themselves. We suck when it comes to physical activity. Pretty sure a fucking bear could out run most of those runners. A cheetah, that is impressive. SOmeone riding a bike ? hard sure , iimpressive, not to me.

You've obviously never played sports competitively. Or know what it's like to be an athlete.

Moving on..

Does anyone know the official source these pictures came from?
