Dennis Ferrer at Sunnyside
Man, was this a jam! Coming right after the Victor Calderone boat cruise, my crew was one of the first groups there. It was pretty empty, but as the night progressed this turned into one of the parties of the year!
Dennis was on point. He played European sounding (figures with Andre opening) a lot of deep, sexy tech, not too many vocals really organic sounding. I was really impressed with Dennis, he sounded way different then he would at other Toronto venues. It would be cool to hear him at an afterhour spot like Stereo because he would murder it there.
Party was packed, probably one of the best Sunnyside parties ever. Sound was crisp and the bathroom situation was improved with more port-a-potties.
Perfect way to end summer...
Bah, really should have checked this out!
this was a great party, although the sound was turned down around 11pm, dennis was not happy about that.

agreed. This was a really good party. Had to leave early when my 'mates lost a wallet and started wigging out. But this venue is amazing for a summertime event, dennis ferrer's set was great, but I was equally impressed with the local talent as well. Sexy/mature crowd.

Here's NOW Toronto's review of the event.

| Sunny Sunday at Sunnyside Dennis Ferrer cranks the house classics at outdoor dance party By BENJAMIN BOLES DENNIS FERRER at Sunnyside Pavilion, Sunday, September 2. Dancing under the stars in a picturesque walled garden to soulful house music is a pretty nice way to say goodbye to summer. However, despite the gorgeous location and a smooth set by NYC DJ/producer Dennis Ferrer, something felt slightly off. The crowd was huge, but there wasnt nearly as much dancing as there should have been. Because the organizers set up a smaller sound system for the local DJs at one end of the space, we were often subjected to the annoying clash of competing beats when standing in line for outhouses, drinks or the bank machine (and, yes, we spent a lot of time in lines). While it may not have been the most smoothly run event at this unique location, Ferrers strong set clearly pleased the fans in the front. You could argue that he relied a little too much on modern remixes of classic house anthems, but that is an effective way to get an aging deep house crowd excited. Sep 4, 2012 at 02:08 PM |
