Natural Selection 2

http://store.steampowered.com/app/4920/

I am pre-ordering the hell out of this game.

I never even played the first; this just looks like the perfect balance between Tribes and the older AvP games' multiplayer.

Also, it's by a tiny studio that's been working on it for years, and it looks fucking amazing. Here's a more in-depth article:

It's only $25 on Steam right now! :-D

I've had it for quite a while (pre-ordered it like 2 years ago? i duno)

i play it once in a while to test it, but the amount of people who are playing is almost nobody. can't wait till more people start playing. looks really polished.

miss 'combat' mode. that was my favorite.

Sneaker Pimp Natural Selection 2

Natural Selection 2 is an immersive, multiplayer shooter that pits aliens against humans in a strategic and action-packed struggle for survival. It seamlessly combines a shooter/FPS gameplay with a strategy (RTS) game.

The game is in active beta with 40,000 players were releasing updates nearly every week with new units, abilities, maps, improvements, etc. NS2 v1.0 will launch on Steam this summer.

So there is no official combat mode coming into this?

I'm loving this game, and I don't typically love deathmatch-style multiplayer games.

I think the game balance is a bit skewed toward Marines however, as most people are generally more comfortable playing FPS games with guns and a map and a HUD, etc. Like it's more conventional, and the controls for the Aliens - although very well-designed - are, well, alien. So maybe it will take a while for the playerbase to kind of get used to walking on walls and melee combat in a shooter of sorts. But that's just my impression after playing a couplefew matches.

Otherwise, the graphics and smooth gameplay are fantastically produced, and the strategy/RTS elements are awesome, even though they'll take some getting used to as a new player to really grasp. Practically on-the-fly evolutions and upgrades are an awesome feature, I just wish you retained them through death instead of having to do it all over again each respawn... but perhaps that will become less niggling once I stop sucking so bad and dying every 10 seconds.

Really hoping they add a few more game modes or customization to current maps and stats- but maybe I just haven't explored enough yet.

The problem with part one, it was unbalacable(for the very small percent of people that were godly at video games). People made specific modification plugins and it still wasnt balanced, im curious if they will ever fully take care of that or if its possible.
