Jump starting a set?

For those of you who have the PvD Essential Mix @ the Gallery Turnmills (4.2.99).... how did PvD pull of that opening effect that jump starts the set? Is it just part of the track? Is it a wicked backspin?

Do others have suggestions for how to jump start a set (say, when the crowd isn't big on trance and doesn't wanna wait for a build)....?

Thanks!

I always thought it was a backspin, but maybe it is part of the track. that set is WICKED, one of my favorites.

the first half is actually pete tong, and paul mixes out of his set with that effect, not sure if it's just good timing or not though.

sounds like a backspin to me. man i forgot how good this set was, great track selection.

trust me
its the song!

Either that, or slinky(one of the blue ones) has a backspin in the same song @ the same time...

I am going to go find it for you

Assuming it is the song, are there are any tunes from 2001/2002 that aren't ultra rare vinyls that have a cool jump start?

Back spins rule imo. But they sound a bit shite if one does not pull the trick off properly.

I dont think PvD had a residency at Cream btw.

Umm, get a track that has an intro with no bassline at all (something in ambient style)...just a sweet melody! Then you can start a track with a heavy kick that will be beatmatched with the melody that is playing! Or, if the track is not in ambient style, and it's in trance style, then you can just let it play!

Another way is starting with a track that has a kick from the beginning. So, what you do? You cut the bass from the mixer before the track starts and have full tremble and mid frequencies on! Then you can continue with 2 ways :

1: Start decreasing the sound for 5-7 seconds.Cut it out for less than 1 second, then move the mixer's slider to the top and combine the fulling of the bass frequency! Something like a blast!

2: Increase steadily the bass frequency, moving it to the top. That'll be good also.

Keep DJing...
