Using Ipad as a controller for Logic?
I know this came up in another thread last year, but there's a bunch of new apps since then I was wondering what the best App is to control Logic from from an Ipad.
I know there's dedicated fader surfaces such as AC-7 but some others were suggestion splashtop as it gives you access to your entire screen.
Does anyone have any suggestions?
Personally, the ideal would allow me to control logic on my imac while I'm somewhere else AND pass the audio through.
touchosc integrates with logic seamlessly. Best solution imo. I've tried them all when i didn't have my sexy euphonix setup.
there are 5 pages but this gives you an idea. They faders also receive values.

| Originally posted by DJ RANN Yeah, this seems to be the one that everyone has decided is their go to now. I take it, that it doesn't have the capability to stream audio from the host - is there any way to do this? And does touchosc only work over wifi local wifi network with both ipad and mac connected to the same router? Or does it work over an internet connection. What I want to do is be at work and in down time, access my miac and logic at home. |

| Originally posted by Looney4Clooney it can. But it takes a bit of work on your end. IF you are talking about like different levels of lan, then that is no problem. If you for some reason want to press play and scare your girlfriend which is something i would do when you are at starbucks, it can be done. You will need to use it with osculator in this instance tho. |

Although i don't think OSC is wired yet. Maybe. Haven't used it in a few months. The latency for non wired is negligible. It doesn't look fancy but works well. And you can make your own templates. The logic one is just one made to work seamlessly with logic without having to do anything on your part. |

It's more that i have projects at home that I can't touch during business hours, but sometimes we'll have serious down time and if I could just access Logic I could finish some projects. VNC can do what I want but it seems too much geared towards screen sharing. I think OSC is either already there or just about to be implemented which will be a real game changer. The only thing I dislike is look but I can live with that. However, is there anything that acts like a complete remote for Logic, even letting you arrange etc? It make be more a remote desktop thing but I've heard of guys using this in control room situations where they need to trigger/arm/record while they are in the recording space. |

Was able to open the project, 16 gigs of ram, about 80% on the cpu metre playing without skips on my ipad 10 km away. The ep was impressed that i could do it. In fact i had not planned on it. he wanted to hear it without a few layers. And bam. Granted i have a home security system which is the main reason i have the system setup but i used it for that. Ya, i'm a little nuts on the spy shit. Sometimes i want to be jason Bourne. My latest hobby is spy shit. In fact i have a device that records everything i do all day. Every conversation and the video from my eyes. Not sure why. I just like to document shit. My entire life will be available on blue ray for the kids. lol. i have a military grade night vision. No guns tho. Don't ask. I honestly don't know why i like that stuff. Like i said, i want to be Jason Bourne. The home cameras record 24/7 anyone that comes close to my door, motion sensor so that it timestamps people and uploads it to a server. And no , i don't record anything with my girlfriend. Don't expect to be able to control it well but you can easily do simple things like play or adjust things. It is just the resolution that is poor. But this is just a remote access app for ipad. The best one i've found. Had issues with teamviewer. |
lol
naw. They look outside, in the mail hallway and in my studio. I could but that would be pretty fucked up. I just love technology. There is a sensor if someone gets close to my door, sends me a notification and i can watch the mailman. lol. Its really harmless fun. Just toys. Not cheap tho. The cameras are not visible. My girlfriend is very strict about home decor. She knows about them and accepts it as a hobby as i really don't have any others except reading about WW2.
The night vision thing. I don't even know. I want like a batman cabinet where i enter a code and all this fancy shit shows up to kick ass. I haven't used it much as i think it isn't legal to have. It is pretty cool tho. And it isn't bulky like you would expect.
So splashtop supports ASIO now? That's cool and a lot sooner than expected.
Edit: ooooor maybe mac doesn't use ASIO? pacefalm
nope.
I use something called eyoControl. Most importantly is that it's very user-friendly and it lets me emulate the HUI mode quite easily for controlling not only logic but any DAW software compatible with this protocol. It's a complete no-brainer for me and it's easy to setup. But it's also quite limited in terms of features.
EYOSIDO SOFTWARE
And like L4C said, touchosc is ace as you can design your own controls. There's also another alternative, it's called midi designer and it was praised by many as you could design your own sets of faders and knobs on the unit directly.
There's also the Lmur for iPad.
But for what you want, arrange tracks etc... I can't see any direct option. we're outside the simple remote controller market at that point.
lemur is great. still haven't used it but i've tested the engines. seems really cool.
Thanks Peeps.
Splashtop2 is the way to go for what I need as it's the only thing that will give me total desktop access of logic AND stream the audio output. I can now tinker away when I'm not at home as long as my Imac is on.
However, that EyoSido software looks great. I like the fact it's based on the HUI protocol which has always been solid, and the interfaces are so much less of an eyesore than touchOsc. The oldschool in me likes the fact it actually looks like a Mackie control surface, or akai drum pad etc.
OH MY FUCKING GOD
Splashtop2 is the best fucking thing I have ever seen.
The resolution is incredible and I can literally control everything on either my PC or mac and even file transfer to my ipad.
Seriously, if anyone ever needed a remote producing solution, this is it.
All this for $4.99. Fucking bargain.
When i give advice, it is because i have tried lots of things. My SNR on here is pretty damn good. I suppose we are similar in that regard.
Does ASIO work from your PC, RANN?
Sorry to bump this, but fuck me, splashtop is just fucking incredible.
I was out in my guest house which is a good 100 feet from my where my imac and being able to control my imac, as if I was sitting in front of it, with proper page scaling to fit the ipad and all the audio from logic coming through is a thing of utter beauty.
That's all, better shut up now.
I'm sure you've already tried it, but I'm just going to leave this here for future reference:
Logic Remote
Apple's own remote thingie.
