I might be getting my first gig at Home Niteclub
OK Im only 17 and i was talking to Andrew James at Central Station Records at Oxford St, Sydney and i was talking about mixing and so on...
I told him that my mix had been on Nova FM, being the first person in Australia was good anywayz...
He told me that when i turn 18 (December), if i can prove to him that i can mix good (I can)...then he'll try and get me a job at Home Niteclub or a closer club....
I don't care if its not Home...just any club is good for me...
Can anyone tell me how much a dj my age will get...$$$
just curious.
Oh and my mix is going on Nova FM again in around october or even september if i finish it on time..
not sure about bigger clubs but the average pay for an amatuer is around $100 per hour
not too shabby at all
$100 a hour...wow lol
does the pay get higher and higher and how..
also jace when is your mix gonna be played on Nova
I havent sent my mix in yet but gilmistas will be on sometime around october they said.. not sure yet tho & not fully confirmed
Good stuff mate! Pats Psygnosis on the back.
BTW if you want to get more practice come mix online like i do. Right now i'm in yahoo chat>music>electronica in room1 so if you want to come listen or want to play some stuff i'm there all the time so come give it a shot.
I'm playing "i know you love me too - Chris Rryan" right now

How do you mix online...?

Captain Kirk is a fucken asshole...I was asking for songs and stuff and he was like "I don't know that song", i was telling him that he was a bloody hard trance, Hi NRG Dj and he said "I don't want to serve you anymore"
Back to topic..jace which mix is Nova playing...and i remember you said you knew about the listener mix ages ago...did you happen to catch my one dude.

Comin in now, Robert Miles - Children (Rob Searle Remix)

no Psygnosis I didn't
I don't listen to Rush that much to be honest, i just heard by word of mouth they played listener mixes so yeh..
Well done on getting a gig. So do the big nightclubs take newbies? Or do you need experience? Cause I'm thinking of sending a promo CD to Heaven II (a big nightclub in Adelaide) so I can perhaps get a warmup spot at Chemistry on Thursday night (Adelaide people should know what I'm talking about).
The pay's not bad too. Mind you, you're probably only DJing for an hour ... if you do a 21st you can DJ for 5hrs @ $50/hr + $200 for speaker hire
Big clubs don't take on newbies.. especially Home of all places but if you can organise a spot to play well ure doing yourself damn good
good luck to all the budding DJs in here
i'm sure one day i'll get my shit together enough to buy some decks and join y'all hehehe
the more the merrier
Yeah, I don't think Home is a place to take on Newbies, but the icebox is. They have a newbie almost every thursday.
that's great to hear!!. as webmeister fore-mentioned, good luck to all the budding DJs in here
ps. wot is the timeslot for RUSH? coz i dun listen 2 nova at all
good question chewy.
I was listening to nova a couple of weeks ago at about 1 am and it was actually pretty good.....
what time does RUSH actually start and end?
try the website
www.nova969.com.au
BUT I AM A NEWBIE...
I've only been Djing for about 6-8 months now....
I was the first person in Australia to be selected to do a listener mix for nova...
i guess this was luck...
To tell you guys the truth, i have only been using decks for at least 5 hours total....ive just been practising on wave and all...just trying to beat match using those programs so i can cue up my beats properly....
First time i used decks i was mixing like Pro Djs....but the cueing needed help....now im better...i guess i have DJ blood that gave me this luck
If i get this job y'all....come for free everything lol.
Oh and this my be a gauranteed job if only i can prove to DJ Andrew James that i can dj....he is the one that offered be the job.
ALSO Rush is on Saturdays from 12 am to 6 am...but the Rush mix selectors are at 3 am to 6 am...
People(Newbies, ie. us) who send mixes in will get it played at around 4 am.
Just to let you know, Andrew James doens't play at sublime any more. He left about a yeat ago.
