Torchlight 2
HOLY SHIT.
TOMORROW.
AIEEEEEEEEEEEEEEeeeeeeeeeeeeee
Just finishing off the last act of diablo. Then onto borderlands. Then Ill be back for torchlight
The click is strong with this one.
I will definitely get Borderlands 2, but my inner Jew is screaming that $60 for a new release is madness. I got the GOTY edition of BL1 over a year ago for like $9.99 on the Steam summer sale. My backlog of games is far too vast to warrant a full price new release, so I'll just swim around in my vault of gold coins for a while longer.
Whatareyagonnado *shrug*
Hahaha inner jew. Its not quite that expensive for those of us with a real currency, but yeah, more than Ive spent in a while (got diablo via gift voucher, winning).
I got it free via subscribing to WoW. IT'S A REALLY GOOD GAME, OK, FUCKFACE?
OH my gOd this game is ju oi1ruhkjasdbfl. qwef a
Pretty meh, but decent if you're into the mediocre hack n slash. Its a very plain game, but it does it well.
I loved Diablo 3, but this absolutely crushes it in every subtle way.
Dont know about that, but im not so crazy about blizzard these days thats for sure. Its like you want to play some decent older game with new interchangeable content, this is it. Guess im not a fan of these types of games as much as I loved diablo 2. The meta internet experience was key though.
Maybe i've just grown old for this type of formula, or there is no room to innovate much, or they simply dont want to.
Torchlight one had many problems imo, but they've gone a long way since then, I'll definitely give torchlight 3 a good try because by then, I think they'll have something greater(judging by this leap). Hopefully they'll do some new things to hook me. I dont want this feeling of this game I've played over again a few times.
Has anyone been able to get this running on linux?

I am being a tad harsh here, Im gonna play t2 this weekend, hopefully I can change my opinion a bit. Like I've said though, I think it does what it does well, even with the lack of innovation, lack of freshness. My brother will be thrilled with this game I know that for sure. The music/sound effects are superb, Im guessing the same dude from d2? some of it sounds identical lool. And ya, this game is wayyy better than torchlight 1, that game I was playing through it and was kept disappointed by everything lol.
So I read this game was founded by the ex CEO of Blizzard North. Now thats a good fucking sign, Blizz North was the shit! Personally I Think they really dropped the ball on d3, but it still is prestigious. I love how smaller studios can bring awesome shit to the table, look at Blizzard, they have access to every single resource available and they still manage to piss of a fuck ton of people. Cant please everyone but some of their decisions were fucking atrocious.
Yeah, many of the people who were originally working on Diablo 3 made Torchlight 1 & 2; the Blizzard North team before they were shut down and laid off. Torchlight's music is done by the same composer, Matt Uelman, and many of the pieces are obviously reminiscent of D2- because I'm sure many of them were being designed for D3 in the first place!
I think D3 is a really great game, but the replay value is absolutely shit. And I didn't really feel like exploring any of the classes, especially since they didn't have much customization or any skill trees to speak of, just inevitable skill unlocks, the majority of which were useless or uninteresting anyway. And even when an interesting skill came along for a certain class, the typical Blizzard monkeying with "balance" ensured it would be completely altered or neutered the next patch anyway. I don't think we'll ever see that sort of thing in Torchlight- their game is infinitely more open to experimentation and eventually modding, a stark contrast to Blizzard who says "don't touch our game or we'll fucking spank you". Well I think 60% less people are touching their game at all these days, from the numbers at launch.
i actually liked the skill system in D3. i liked being able to chop and change on the fly depending on what was going on. but agreed, the replay value just isn't there. especially since so many of the maps are exactly the same. i hated that, especially given you have to play through it 4 times. finally killed diablo for the final time and there is absolutely no incentive whatsoever to play thru with a different class.

I'm liking this as well. Not too much to add as I'm only a few hours in, but it's a superb sequel. A little off topic, but I can say stay away from this POS game Dungeon Lords MMXII. Some of you may be familiar with the series, and this is just like the rest...unfinished!

Then maybe it was just in the way you worded it; "chop and change on the fly depending on what was going on" is most certainly not how Inferno difficulty is designed to work, as you lose all your Nephalem Valour when you change skills. D3 tries so hard to make every skill useful, but their constant fucking with it ensures that you're simply going to be using different skills each patch, and if WoW is any indicator (it is), things iwll only become more exasperated once PvP is unrolled.
TL2 does a much better job with the skills (in my opinion, and I am far from beating it, so I might still be wrong), but passives and actives tend to synergize quite well, and all of the trees are 'open'- you need not pick a talent tree and stick with it, though you are better off doing so to some degree. In essence, it takes a simplistic thing and does not innovate, but rather polishes it to remove essentially bad options from being immediately possible- the mark of great design, if you ask me.

And I'll bet Inferno Diablo dropped an ilevel 52 Follower-specific item for you, too!
Hahaha, no rares at all I think, just magical. Useless magical lol.
