Scrub Scrubbing it up

Ello guuuuys

Looking for general feedback and as I'm a total scrub at everything that you may think is general knowledge, please do not start throwing technical words at me cause I'll get teary in my eye and run around like a madman without arms! I simply took a bunch of sounds and threw em onto the screen, OK?.

The language is swedish. and Erik Ponti is the main character in a famous book/film.

The concept is cool. It has energy for sure. The first thing I would do would be to completely scrap the "Erik Ponti" thing. It's annoying, and brings nothing to the track. The samples in general don't really do anything for me, taking them as nothing more than sound (I obviously don't speak Swedish). You implement the samples when there is no other sound going on, just like, a transition I guess. It doesn't really help. Maybe if I knew what they were saying I would be singing a different tune, but I prefer not to have to understand words I'm hearing in music. Vocals should be used musically, not as filler, IMO.

Anyway, as far as the music goes, I think it's a cool idea. Like I said, it has a lot of energy, like something you might hear in a video game. I feel like the sounds are very dated. Work on the sounds and add more variety for sure, all you really did was take your loop and split it with some vocal samples. There's no variety here, which certainly makes it reasonable to leave the track at 3 minutes, but you could even have made it a minute shorter and I would feel exactly the same. There's not enough content to make it something I would want to hear for more than a minute or two.

You say you just took a bunch of sounds and threw them on the screen, but all I'm really hearing is a small handful of sounds. Develop the original idea, add more variety, and you might have something.

With the vocal samples all I can say is that this whole idea came from that "Erik ponti" loop at a festival, and well that's why it's there in the first place! But I understand that someone who just listens to the track for its music value can find it annoying, as with the other vocals which comes from the movie with erik ponti in it!

I can really understand the feel of repeatyness, I tried to make it less so with a small variation but I might just go on an all out rampage in the middle somewhere, see what happens

And as I said, I'm a scrub and the sounds will sadly sound like they sound, basicly

It's a pretty cool basis for a track. Still think there is much ground to cover but it has legs as they say.

Erik Ponti kan jag leva utan. Sorry just dipped into mother tongue. Most people wont know Ondskan by Jan Guillou so will probably not get the referrence.

I also get the impression that your kick is slightly panned to the right for some reason, is this correct? Might not have balanced the volume on my monitors right but I'm pretty sure that's what I heard. Stick that in the centre.

The track does sound very dry at the moment, which might be what you are going for, but it just needs something to increase the sonic landscape a little.

Percussively does still need a lot of work as there needs to be something that gives it a bit of groove.

It's dark and twisted though, so has great potential, and given the subject you are writing about the twisted feel actually makes even more sense.

As for the rest I tackar dig (thank you) dearly for your feedback! I will not however remove erik ponti since as I stated it's practicly what made me make the song in the first place! But I absolutely understand that someone from outside this sick twisted group of individuals I hang around with find it annoying and hindering for their eargasms.

As far as a "dry" sound goes.. I don't even know what that means sir

When I say 'dry' it means that the sounds are pretty empty of effects i.e. there isn't a feeling that they occupy any sense of space. I'm not saying stick tons of delay on them like a trance track would, but perhaps create a channel where you have a small reverb and then one where you have a bigger verb, then route your non bass and drum sounds to these, giving perhaps the room verb a bit more volume than the big verb.

Computer sounds can sound very lifeless on their own and this might give them a bit more presence.

It's just a suggestion though and ultimately it depends on what you want to go for.

Just so you know. I'm also Swedish so if you have trouble writing something in English put it down in Swedish, I will know what you mean.

Gave it another listen, it's actually not that dry, must have been tired yesterday.

Still maintain that you have all your bass shifted over to the right side though. Shouldn't really pan bass sounds as they are pretty non directional anyway. Also upsets the balance of the mix.

This is try for kick and mid bass sound. I did a test switching off each monitor and this appears to be what is happening.

Haha, okay so dryness is no longer a problem? The song had some MAJOR changes in between your listens so might be that!

And yes, the kick had for some reason been panned for god knows how long, and as I'm using earphones I can't really tell if the kick is panned just a bit to either side. It's fixed now and I'm gonna change versions on Soundcloud!
