Is there a machine designed specifically for making uppers and downers?
At the mo I use synths to make my own uppers and downers (not just white noise sweeps of course) but the synths I have are not ideally suited to this task.
One particular issue I have is when automating pitch over the duration of an event, you get the dreaded audible stepping rather than a nice smooth rise.
Is there something designed specifically with this task in mind?
I tend to avoid sample based fx packs aimed at this space as there is not enough control and often I wan't a particular tailored noise that I have imagined in my head.
I usually take a long white noise sample and do all the modulation with effects, automated in my sequencer.

Pioneer RMX 1000 works as hardware plugin via USB and VST
i find massive very good for this - with all the modulation options etc.
normally just assign pitch to an envelope.
portamento would get rid of those steps. Then draw the notes rather than automation.
Rich have you tried increasing the resolution of the pitchbend data?
Would using an envelope on the pitch (instead of pitchbend) get rid of the stepping i wonder??
forget about what I said before shit is definitely steppin, didn't do enough testing before posting the stepping is obvious in a higher octave
in Absynth there is a 'lag' control next to the pitch bend amount which smooths it out, if that helps any
