heck......u got some money to get yourself about 10 records
remember you'll need carts and headphones as well
well... shop around.
my take on the $1000 for a DJ setup question:
a) used 1200 MK2s - $350/ea should be easy to find, probably less! That's $700, but you can probably find a set for 6 hundred and change.
b) Shure M44G carts - about $50 a pop, times 2 = $100 (maybe you'll get lucky and the used decks will come with carts!) .. to save some $$ you could always go with the trusty ole' stanton 500's or something else that's cheaper.
c) an inexpensive mixer - for the remaining $200, you can certainly find a decent two or three channel box to start with. you can upgrade later, or plop down another $175 or so and get a vestax PCV275.
what really matters here is you got good decks that'll stay with you for years. you can get fancy needles and a pro mixer later, when you get better. The 1200s are an investment. pay $350/ea for them now, you'll get almost that ( or maybe even exactly that ) in a few years.
lower end tables are not so much of an investment - they wont last as long as techs, and are much less in demand.
cheers,
-mer
