Interesting to see him behind the scenes.

but yes... kinda cool getting to see the rigorous life of a int'l dj. Not a lot of time to spend at home it looks like.

It must be hectic to fly from Netherlands to Ibiza just to spin one night then fly back the next morning. How long is that flight anyways?

I really liked it. Better than the Markus one IMO. It seemed like he was really disappointed with the DJ Mag 2nd place thing though. Guetta seemed like a pretty nice guy and I liked how they edited out the booing part during the awards .

yea the markus one was hardly a documentary.

I would say if you put this one together with the Tiesto docs you get kind of an idea of what it's like to be a big DJ.

I liked this a lot. It is, I will admit, almost hard to believe that these guys just love this stuff so much and never adapt a rockstar attitude toward everything. But with Armin, the gigs I've been to lately, I believe it. The guy just loves this shit and luckily is really good at it (DJing/producing).

I will be disappointed if he does not win #1 DJ this year (although yes, I know it's a popularity contest). To put on all of those ASOT events with a warmup set each time, and interviews throughout, and on top of that all of the ASOT campaigns going on around the world - that's impressive! He really unites people all over the world and elevates the dance music scene; I love checking twitter during the asot broadcasts to see all the different people listening. How does Guetta/Tiesto/Avicii even come close to that? Maybe they get EDM on the radio a bit more and I guess you could call their product sponsorships extra exposure but... let's be real, it's a lot further from the music than what Armin's been doing.

Maybe some people on here think Armin's a sellout and is doing these ASOT broadcasts/stages for more money, and doesn't book their favorite acts, but I think it's pretty hard to deny that he really does want to put trance on the map in the new era of EDM and is working hard to do so. He seems very humble when he interviews producers, big or small.

yup. you really can't compare armin to the new era PRODUCERS that are forced to DJ because of their radio hits. you think calvin harris, avicii, etc give a shit about anything else except making radio hits? no way.

If anything, losing #1 place this year is probably what motivated him to tour so much.

very interesting and well put together documentary. definitely enjoyed it.

That documentary was way better than it had any right to be. I was expecting a hagiography. Some real moments of honesty. I liked:

"It�s good to realize that I�m spending 95% of my life with people who won�t love me in 10 years� time. They�ll be cheering someone else."

Shows a real self awareness.

It's funny because nowadays he's really trying hard to cater to the kids who will be disinterested with him in about 2 years or maybe even less.

I predicted that he would fall, and I got beat up on here and on Facebook for saying that I wanted it to happen. i duno, i think we see some shades of what we want to hear, but majority is still electro, especially begining of sets. he always ends with his classics, but would rather here more uplifting 138+ BPM non-vocal.

univeral religion chapter 6 cd1 is pretty good though.

Armin lost me with Mirage. That album was meh compared to his previous work like Shivers and Imagine. I'm hoping he regains his old sound instead of this wave of electro I've been hearing.

Does anyone else realize that Armin Only in LA is coming up on 4 years now? That was the turning point in EDMs popularity in LA

Or not. From a pure marketing standpoint, this is how to stay relevant. Who wouldn't want to bring in as many "kids" as possible? Even (most of) the purest artists would like their music to reach as many as possible.

Now you may consider this selling out and not being true to himself; I won't argue (I still like what he's doing, but then, I don't find pop music some sort of great evil). I can see why someone might think this. But wanting to appeal to new young fans is the way to maintain the brand.

Tried watching this video, but just shows that it's private now. I guess KLM's viewing window ended a few hours before I had a chance to see it...
