Markus Schulz deserves more credit

Just came back for the warehouse project man, being an armin fanboy I was disappointed by him :/ most of the mixing he did just gave me a headache and bad choice of songs had a few decent but 75% of his set was full of crap ;/ I guess the fact that for the past year my classic trance taste developed a lot, I am bound to like armin less. Thinking about his previous gigs, shit men they werent that good, just average. Number one for you

On the other hand Markus wow didnt know that guy was a really good dj really did amazing kept the crowd going for all of his set - my back fking hurts like hell. I was surprised because as a producer he does not stand out a lot.

Sadly Markus kept me for 2 hours of partying so did not manage to see PVD.

They have a nice sound in there don't they?

Was he main room or room 2?

Paul absolutely nailed it.

last time i saw armin he played a lot a lot of classics, i arrived a bit late because i was on 2nd room with stefano noferini and apparently the beginning of his set had loads of vocal crap but then:

Cosmic Gate - Fire wire
Ram -Ramsterdam(jvd remix)
Personal Jesus (Prydz remix/Tyas rework)
Burned with desire (rising star mix)
Sail
This world is watching me
Cygnus X - Superstring

and many more , with loads of tech trance.

Last time i saw markus was 4 years ago and he was more commercial that the armin i saw recently, i think he has moved a lot to less fluffy music and more banging stuff, he only played the JOC mix of Concrete Angel and a mashup of In & Out of Love with JOC - Raw Deal the rest was quite sober.

I prefer markus over armin but his album was a huge disappointment. it was utter garbage.

I think the problem is markus wants to be armin thats why he keeps churning out those crappy commercial tunes. I wish he'd just be himself maybe then he'd produce better tracks.

He was in room 2 which was a lot smaller. Room one was a bigger open space. I think room 2 had a better sounding system

Yeah, I quite enjoyed the banging stuff only knew a few of those songs but he really mixed them well, i was non stop dancing. Armin played Concrete Angel too, i prefer Sanctuary over it any day.

I had never seen him live before and thought he played like Armin, just suprised me how good he was. I will probably start listening more of him, i use to listen to Future Cities and some other ones but never really got too much into him. Also got to shake his hand at the end

Wow, TA is actually talking about Trance again, and not in a disparaging way? *Mind Blown*

If you liked him for (what I assumed was a 2 hour set) you should see him when he does a 7 hour solo set. Markus unlike Armin doesn't play the same songs, over, and over, and over...

Sure, he'll play some of the more well known stuff but by hour 2 and beyond you are going deep into the rabbit hole.

You shook his hand, he's a great guy. Here in Miami he usually meets up with his fans and chats it up a bit. Remember talking to him for about 30 min when they were shooting the Sleepwalkers music video at Space. It was awesome and you can tell he loves his fans.

well markus is very down to earth i talked with him for a few minutes, it was 8am and the guy was still pleased to have a chat with us.

I really don't like that little Funktion One they have in Room 2.

I mean it's punchy, but I don't like it.

Room One I have no idea what they are flying, but it is fucking nuts.

Well for Armin at least when he mixed the songs, it sounded the same hence the headache. It was like you get the song then you get something mixed that sounds quite irritating and you cant even dance to it then you get the the rest of the song. Idk just the mixing was irritating and very similar thoughout. Anyone else felt that way?

Ye it was 2 hours, btw are there a lot of trance lovers in Miami? or more House?

Markus has always been a well rounded DJ though I was big on his days of him being known as the anti-trance trance DJ. His GDJB shows from 2002-07 was just epic. he would drop a wide range of genres on those shows.

he also doesn't get the credit he deserves as an opening DJ. Saw him several times open and he knew how to properly set the tone.

i didn't notice this but i was a bit jammed so my technical appreciation was damaged.

Although it makes sense, tracks now are fucking brickwalls of sound and you simply can't blend them , even if they are mixed in key they clash and saturate the speakers, is better to drop them on a build up but he likes to play the tracks on the last phrase before breakdown (something i completely understand when playing live) and you can't do this so easily without it sounding odd.

Posted by Thirsty on Oct-21-2012 22:54:

ye he does that ;/ but i prefer when a song is lengthy and puts you in a mood for example - who will find me.

love this

Posted by Rodri Santos on Oct-21-2012 23:16:

his programming is not as bad as people think, he knows that the track is a breakdown inside the set, surely after this he began increasing the energy again with something epic but more danceable.

Posted by Thirsty on Oct-21-2012 23:36:

he had good moments, just expected more of him

Posted by edmcanada on Oct-22-2012 02:39:

He's still playing a wide variety of tracks on his podcast that almost no Trance DJ show comes close. Without his show many good tracks would never see the light of day.

sounds like afrojack/hardwell sort of tracks mixed with some classics. He needs to stop playing electro house (the pitch bend shit) in his sets they are fucking awful and Schulz is as big of an asshole as Armin.

Every live set I've seen him he play he plays that annoying electro digital madness song.

Dirty Dutch is the genre you're thinking of.

Same shit different colour. The stuff he plays is not meant for serious music listeners like myself who buy music for listening pleasure of it.

my thoughts there are a lot of tracks i don't like in that set to justify a download and consequent listen then, what is that techno track that is so amazing? He used to play proper techno, now the "techno" he plays is bleep bleep pitched noise in the style of Dustin Zahn - Stranger to Stability, once it was fresh and pumping now all the trance producers featured in ASOT or GDJB seems to think "we are incorporating other styles into our music, we are pioneers!!"

no.
