Smiley DJ What is Trance?

I have heard a lot of definitions about trance but I thought I'd ask everyone here what they think the word and genre means. Any thouhgt and opinions would be great. As well, if anyone would like to drop a couple song names that'd be great

a psychological state induced by (or as if induced by) a magical incantation
A state in which the soul seems to have passed out of the body into another state of being, or to be rapt into visions; an ecstasy.
A hypnotic, cataleptic, or ecstatic state.
Detachment from one's physical surroundings, as in contemplation or daydreaming.
A semiconscious state, as between sleeping and waking; a daze.
A tedious journey

the dictionary definition pretty much sums up the musik for me

pure Trance examples

Bedrock - Heaven Scent
Sasha - Xpander
BT - Dreaming
Paul van Dyk - Avenue

basically anything on our all-time favourites list... in other words.

trance music should at best take you to a journey and throw you into a state T-Funk quoted... and at worst, still being able to make you stop thinking. when it goes too hard or too fast, the focus is shifted to the beats, then it's becoming "music for the body", not your mind.

Trance.....isfeeling the emotion and power at the same time ;brought by the melodic music and strong killer bassline.

IF you can feel it, then.... trance is everything... in you life...

YOUR LIFE=TRANCE

I totally agree with you all... and specially this article:

Couldn't have said it better myself

Trance is a music genre like no other, every genre is unique in itself but trance is something that stands further all other! Trance is an epic genre full of journeys and harmonical adventures. Every trance tune is unique in itself, with its own beats and melodys.

You have a favourite tune that you love above all other, and when you put it on, you feel that 'tingeling' feeling that makes your spirit wanna fly away and touch the heavens!
Everytime you hear a song you love you will get this feeling, and trance gives you this shivering feeling, this wonderfull emotion!

Very nice article man....really a wonderful one...

I couldn't have said it better either
You know: You can't explain Trance with words....feelings do the talking

i fink we need to come up with a defining tune for every sub-genre of trance... house, breakbeat, jungle, drum & bass, etc...

Well, I used to own a page about electronic music when I was a kid (13/14) and here are some helpful (and old) definitions

Trance: Very similar to ambient and acid house trance is softer than techno, but it can make you dance. It takes you trancely into another world. It evolved from the German Techno, using the rolling bass and sizzling keyboards of techno to give the music a hypnotic effect. From 128 to 150. Synth/sample driving, pounding basslines, complex cyber-sounding keyboards, usually instrumental.

I wasn't really an expert, this is just some material I compiled from several different websites: http://www.geocities.com/Vienna/Str...chnostyles.html

There are (old) tunes for each style...

... yeah, probably there'll be lots of inaccurate info

Posted by maluco on Sep-14-2002 04:01:

technically:
A term that loosely describes a hybrid flavor of techno-styled music with long playing repetitive loops and breaks reminiscent of trance-inducing ambient music of the Far East.

The Trance for me is more than a simple electronic genre...

Trance =

do u guyz think that trance is a genre that everyone would love if they heard it? or just for those who have fine taste in music?

Posted by HempKnight on Sep-14-2002 04:12:

In my research I have found that almost 86% of the people who play video games like trance as well. So I believe that a lot of people who are open to new things would enjoy trance. I love trance, it inspires my poetic side which I should mention is going to be taught in my grade 12 english class

trance: the feling obtained by the induction of rhythmatic beats and synths, resulting in a variation of consciousness. ranging from euphoria to complete and total relaxation. i luv it.
