The Hurricane/Post-Tropical Storm Sandy thread

Hey New Yorkers,

I hope you're doing fine. Is it really as bad as the news predicted? Sandy was apparently demoted to the status of "tropical storm", but it's still no breeze, so I wonder if it really caused any trouble up there.

Except for the accidental deaths, I hope nothing major happens.

I'm in south jersey, it's pretty nuts though we still have power.
Been seeing lots of pictures and posts that places on the jersey shore are completely flooded. Parts of lower manhattan and brooklyn are flooded with no power as well.

There's a fair amount of people without power here. There's been pretty high sustained winds since about 4pm EST, and it's been raining pretty hard since roughly 6pm EST.

Yeah those photo's are pretty intense.

Hope all you New Yarkers and Jersay Troglodytes stay safe down there

I wonder how many kids are gonna be born in the end of July early August...

I'm not sure what's worse, the hurricane, or the idiots on Facebook sharing obviously fake pictures of the hurricane. I swear there is one floating around of a wave about to smash down the statue of liberty, and all I see are comments like "omg", "that's so scary". Am I the only one with a bunch of morons on their Facebook?

I'm afraid so. My friends are, for the most part, awesome.

I only talk to 10% of the people on my Facebook. I think it might be time to do a cleanup... Not going to lie though, the most annoying ones on my Facebook are family.

Hahahaha. More often than not, the misguided ones that did find their way in are former classmates who weren't the sharpest tools in the shed.

I think I keep them as friends because I get some sick pleasure from reading their terrible status updates, but it's driving me to insanity.

I try to subscribe to everyone's feeds, because I believe we should be exposed to everyone's opinions, even though you fundamentally disagree with.

But I feel your pain. There's this one guy who wreaks havoc all the time at my university because he becomes extremely passionate about things he understands nothing about (having invaded the dean's office with a mob a couple of times, he now wants to incite some kind of rebellion against the government because of a misreported piece of news). The guy is violently dumb, and I'm sure he's the kind of person people have in mind when they say there are "useful idiots" for every cause.

This doesn't seem so bad, not in comparison with the shit that floods my news feed. I would imagine that this crazy guy you speak of would be able to tell that this photo is fake.
