Joing files together

Problem:
I have a set thats already split into files and i want to join them together as one large file
What I've Tried:
Ok i've tried HJSplit by using the join option but it wont read the files...i asked some peeps and they advised me to rename the file from
nick_warren_08201995_part_one
to
nick_warren_08201995_part_one.mp3.001
nick_warren_08201995_part_one.mp3.002
etc

what am i doing wrong cuz it still doesnt work or what other prgrams are out there? thanks
