Ebb and Flow - Trance WIP feedback/crit please

Hello guys

Ive been working hard on this WIP - would appreciate any thoughts or comments - mix down/arrangement/etc at all

All the synth sounds are "home made" apart form one acid sound which is a modified patch from massive

Im really hoping it will be good enough to be releasable when finished. Is that realistic?

Nice piece!

Try expanding the stereo a bit more at 3:17, and continually adding more panning and reverb, etc. You want that section to feel even more evolving, epic, and BIG!

Looking forward to hearing this finished.

I think it is great. Very nice work on the synths and the main melody really does it for me. Sounds nice when you introduce the bass as well.

I agree with Lyte, maybe you can make that break come a little bit more alive and to do it with the help of panning and reverb is a good idea.

The melody comes as a chock at 1.20. Try to give a hint about it first. I would probably just use the first few notes and put a long massive delay on that to give a indication off what's coming.

There is also some irritating high pitch noise coming up now and then throughout the song, I guess that is soundcloud, but have a look at it just in case.

Not much more to say at the moment, I enjoy it a lot and am also looking forward to hear the final result!

good point about the synth coming as a shoock - i tried to introduce it with some reverse synth action but i think your right its still too abrupt!

I hope the nasty highs is just soundcloud - perhaps i need to check the whit noise whooshes!

Yeah, it hits to hard and it feels a little weird when the melody starts right away.

It is some kind of high short sound. Like a whistling bird. Probably SC, don't think it is white noise creating it at least.

what u have here is a lot of potential.

That first smaller break is by far my fave part. The melo and chords are great. Maybe another lead layer where is slides a little and has a nice pre-delay verb will just round the lead off nicely.

I'm very fussy so for me the bassline needs work and automation. It needs to sound more exquisite.

cheers for casting your ears over this - much appreciated. I need to find a way of getting tinternet hooked up to my speakers - at the mo i only have my laptop to listen to other peoples tracks so i can never give good FB as i dont trust what i hear

have been attempting to layer up the leads - and reverb needs work its true

have added some sub to the kick (not updated sc yet though)

with the bassline automation what did you have in mind? planning to fade in and out with filters

Reminds me of the turn of the century hard house with the acid sounds.

I would probably bring down the acid sounds in the mix, a bit over powering and the same would go for the other bass sound with the verb, as they are both very prominent in the mix, although when you have the chord changes they drop back. Might still be a bit too much there though.

I think you need to work on the percussion a little as it still lacks the drive that I like with this kind of music.

The other thing that sticks out is that the connections between the different phases probably needs some creative touches. Doesn't have to be much, might even just be dropping out the kick every now and again or a crash and a bit of filtering.

In the break I think you bring back the high bass a bit to quick, I think the break is nice enough with a few additions to stand on it's own.

Not a bad outing though, I enjoyed listening and the core knowledge is there. I think bottom line is that you need to find your sound that is you. Find out what makes you tick about this music and build on it.

ive been using a track thats a few years old for a reference for this, partly because i thought the sound would be more attainable for me than something bang up to date, next time id like to go for a more modern sound, we shall see

yes ive not been producing trance or house for long, - i still have a way to go - but im enjoying things much more than when i was trying to produce bass music

Sorry men, completely forgot about your PM lol - had some crazy busy schedule last few weeks lol.

Now, going back to your track - lets start with this -> over all nice and likable melodic ideas is running underneath this WIP and for that particular reason I believe that you and your track have a lot of potential to be really good and releasable material but there is few thing you need to take in account:

First, your bass lines ( I think you have two so far low and mid range) need to be glue together in more organic way so they complement more natural way each other.

Second, for me at least, you are missing your signature melodic lead line with some memorable and touching sound - your bases are covered already with this bass melody and some pads and lead playing really cool and sweet melody but you still need (or at least this track)some additional layer of sound which will interconnect effectively with listener/s.

Third, drums -> you need to vary a bit more or be more creative with your drums, people are paying more attention to drums this days and would like to see more evolution in that department lol - if you know what I mean !!!!
