RA Top DJs of 2012 Results
I don't really get all the Troxler hype
http://www.residentadvisor.net/feature.aspx?1700
Top 20 out of 100 for the lazy:
20. Scuba
19. Joy Orbison
18. Sasha
17. me
16. John Digweed
15. tINI
14. Marcel Dettmann
13. Eats Everything
12. Art Department
11. Marco Carola
10. Maya Jane Coles
09. Tale Of Us
08. Ricardo Villalobos
07. Loco Dice
06. Jamie Jones
05. Ben Klock
04. Maceo Plex
03. Dixon
02. Richie Hawtin
01. Seth Troxler
Troxler really is good, #1 is maybe a stretch but he's a versatile DJ. Maya on the other hand...
The list is a million times more relevant than DJ mags but still just a list. It's good to see the guys who have been busting their ass up there though. Digweed, Sasha, Richie, Loco, Klock, Dettmann, Seth. They've all been touring hard around here.
I don't get a lot of the hype (Art Department, Maya Jane Coles included). Overall, a list of more artists that I like than DJ Mag's, but still a list and still annoying for many of the same reasons as DJ Mag haha..
33- Liebing
27- Soul Clap

I kinda believe Seth deserves the slot.. he's busted his chops off this year with all his releases. I'm not crazy about him but he's def put in great work. As a matter of fact a lot of those djs did, even though you believe they didn't since obv you're not too much into them. Art dept is ridic, the 2x I've seen them...maya, I'm not a fan but she sure as hell put out the best set at Old Miami.
really happy to see Ame, Jamie Jones, who also put in mad work, and most happy to see Fred P make the list- he's #1, imo.
Maya and Art Department are both awesome. More day time type music, but super groovy stuff. Hard techno is great, but it gets boring like anything else after awhile.
As always, this list is a "tad" pretentious.
Trox has been touring a lot...
but he also posts to vote for him a lot...
not as bad as DJ Mag... but def a popularity contest...
what does the RA list actually solidify

the list is def 100 times better than dj mag bs
but there are still a few flaws
but over all its ok
i agree with everyone on mjc
as well as Maceo Plex being #4
i never heard him spin so i cant really comment but i doubt he would surpass such dj legends from only being in the scene after what 2-3 years? his productions are def not as good as people make them out to be also
Even Maceo Plex commented on his hype in interviews
At least the RA voting is better because you needed to be registered before voting began and the djs you voted for have to be in your event diary. What happened to the live acts vote? I complained to RA that the way they listed live acts wasn't fair, especially when voting for an act like Carl Craig/Francesco Tristano/Moritz von Oswald and Ame/Dixon, considering it was supposed to be based on the live act and not the individual, it wasn't fair to vote for them individually, limiting exposure to what they were doing. I know the Carl Craig trio had solid reviews in every city(Red Bull Academy calls the trio life changing) so it would have been nice to see them win

Maceo Plex has skills. Great producer and DJ. He does a lot of live stuff and even sings. I've seen him a few times and he's legit. Def been around a long time, I saw him like 3 years ago at Get Lost in WMC when he was first up and coming. He has more talent than most of the top 10.
MJC bored me at EZoo, I was expecting so much more based on the hype. At least Sasha placed on this list though, and it seems like RA is finally over their Ricardo-worship.
Speaking of Ricardo; does he every come around here or will I have to go to another country to catch him?
Never comes around here. He's a baby and is generally anti-America. I've seen him twice overseas and I thought he sucked.

Best set I heard this year was Eric's at UHall. I think he deserves #4, fantastic DJ.

also glad to see max cooper on the list - he struck me as really kind and approachable.
dettmann should've been higher! but it's great to see him up there.
as for the live acts - gaiser is always so much fun, so i figured he'd be up there. nico just doesn't do it for me. i've only seen him once, and of course i knew he'd be 1 in the vote, but mehhhh....i didn't get a chance to see kassem mosse this year - but last year his live act really impressed me, so i'm glad to see him on that list as well.
my votes looked something like:
1. droog (because they really made my summer special)
2. dettmann
3. dyed soundorom
4. dixon
5. magda
