BTW for people who've never been to a Mansion party before...they fill up fast. So if you don't have a ticket and want to make it for guestlist I'd recommend getting their early. I've made that mistake before...

first time at moskito last night and it was a decent night out.


Coming into the party, I was expected a knowledgeable crowd considering who was playing.....couldnt be more wrong lol. youngin/hipster crowd.

Rob Hood played a banging set. However the place lacked vibe and the sound coulda been louder.

liked the quick entry. main level had some top40 music when I walked in....felt i was at the wrong place. On the way out, they had a set from soundcloud playing from an iPad lol,

Robert Hood's set was fucking incredible, off the hook, bonkers. So much groove it's disgusting. I danced sooooooooooooooooo hard last night! My main complaint though was that the sound before and after Robert Hood was terrible, just terrible. Venue is cool, had a nice party vibe. I didn't mind the crowd everyone seemed to be having a good time.

I also don't understand everyone praising the Almighty about how good the sound is at the venue. It's nothing to write home about...

But Rob Hood, jaaaaaaaaaaaayzus. First time I've heard that type of techno in a large venue for AGES. I'm really happy I went. Anyways I thought the young/hipster crowd enjoyed every minute of Rob's set. I looked around when I was dancing on top of the stairs and everyone seemed to be having a blast and dancin' up a storm.

I would most definitely not call the Mansion crowd unknowledgeable, though someone like Robert Hood is quite different from their usual style of bookings. But evidently they're at least open-minded enough to enjoy it anyway.

Exactly. They are knowledgable about other types of music, but the best thing about that crowd is that they have a very open mind.

There are enough places in this city with closed-minded, chin-scratching, old-fart ravers. The Mansion crowd is very refreshing.

well i was pleasantly surprised by the crowd and wasnt rude and were there to party.

just expected an older crowd!

First time going to a Mansion party, but from what I've read about them - I was expecting a younger/hip type crowd. IMO - it's a good thing, seems like these promoters are not just sticking to one genre of music and have booked a rather diverse set of artists - and are exposing younger audiences to some good stuff. The techno scene in Toronto could an injection of some younger kids in the scene -- too many old fogies that would rather stand around, stroke their chins and be snobby about everything.

Anywho, all around - had a great time. Got there shortly after 11:00pm, quick entry into the club. Crowd was a bit sparse when I got there, but quickly filled up. Danced my ass off to Rob Hood - great set. Heard a few tracks that really hit the spot (although I suck at train spotting and naming them).

If you were up close in the front, there were a few sweet spots for sound - but considering how much people hype up it being 'the old boa sound system' - someone really needs to tweak and optimize it, as really - it's not standing out in terms of quality and just seeming 'average/good' to me.

quick door entry, young but up for it crowd, lots of dancing, friendly staff/service, decent sound, good set and some proper ass-shaking techno - solid night out, and to say much negative about it would just be being nitpicky and grouchy.

I'll echo this, with my own two bits thrown in for good measure:

- Hella respectful and considerate promoters, venue staff and crowd; moreso than anywhere else I've been to in this city in the past several years. While dancing during Hood's set, someone walking through bumped into me, and actually took the time to apologise - that's always a good sign. Sure, there was a bit of vacuity present, but most in attendance seemed pretty up for it.

- Sound is in need of some serious tuning. Excepting tracks with obviously strong kicks, the bass was just outright flabby the majority of the time. With that kind of setup, they should have no problem making that system punch like it's meant to.

- Seemingly no thought put into the openers, or openers who didn't put much thought into what they were doing. Too low volume plus poor e.q.ing left no means to create or build any sort of vibe leading into Hood, and when he came on, musically, it was a 40 - 140 km/hr acceleration - terribly disjointed segue into the headliner. Planned better, it could have been a memorable night straight through.

- As for Hood, I've heard him a few times over the years, and while I left myself plenty of room near the back and certainly found myself busting out from time to time, this round didn't do much for me - I love weird and funky and minimal Robert Hood - the last time I saw him in a club I danced for 3 hours straight - not so much when he busts out the "marching Techno", as one friend aptly put it. I didn't have a bad time (and the majority of my crew were dancing their asses off), I just wasn't moved by most of what I heard.

...and to reiterate, barring any unforseen bureaucratic silliness, Moskito has the potential to become a really vital venue for this city. The staff, layout and lighting are all well above par, bookings so far have been solid - just need to fix the sound.

I agree that the sound really needs to be fixed in that place. With a sound system like that, it's a real shame it sounds as bad as it does. It's way too bass heavy, and the bass sounds distorted.

It's a shame that Moskito still has not addressed their sound issues. I thought for sure that it would've been resolved when they mentioned the implementation of their additional "sound processing" that was getting hype for the Danny Howells White Label party. I was quite let down in terms of sound quality that night, even though Danny Howells was on fire.

The bass was distorted in a way that it reminded me of being in the back of the Guvernment when the bass bins resonate so much that it sounds like the wood panels are going to fall apart any second.

Moskito staff, please don't let this system go to waste! It has so much potential, and can take a party from a level of greatness to a night to never forget. To own a sound system of this calibre and not using it to its potential is like owning a Ferrari F50 and not driving it...

The sound compression/distorting issues seem to have been fixed. It sounded amazing last night at Sharam, clean bass without any distortion. Martinez Brothers sounded excellent too.

System needed some tweaks but it sounds pretty good now.
