anyone ever hear of Telex?

not me, until recently. i heard a commercial playing Plastic Bertrand -a plane pour moi (below) a choon in its own right.

one thing led to another and dicovered that some belgian synth band from the 70s had covered it (see below).

again this led to another track. a top notch one at that and i wanted to share it.

i never heard of Telex. i listened to some the other tracks on other albums but they really seemed childish.

Telex even participated at the 1980 edition of the eurosong festival and made belgium proud with only 1 point. :-D You need to know that Telex was famous everywhere but in Belgium, their home country. Reminds me of someone else.

Dan Lacksmann, its main founder is still active and running his synsound studio in the middle of brussels.

Marc Moulin was a national radio speaker, did telex, together they did also tracks for a female pop singer called lio (banana split for ex), but then Marc exploded in 2000 under his own name and his jazz electro fusion. Unfortunately, Marc passed away a few years back, and it's a big loss.

That's because of Telex that Roland got sued in the 90's and had to pull several devices off their shelves (m-dc1, srjv80-05 among others).

The Story behind Ca plane pour moi is very different. The Legend says that Plastic Bertrand didn't even sing on that record. The vocals, lyrics and music are supposedly from Lou Depryck (Lou and The Hollywood Bananas). Both parties are still having a legal dispute, it's been like this for about 40 years now. That said, Plastic Bertrand is "famous" among the belgian business for screwing people quite often. I can't tell you who's lying and who's not.

40s years? some people just can't let go. i guess with fame, prestige and money comes greed. its a shame really that their energies can't be focused on more productive things like making good music.

3-5 million copies and what it represents in terms of sales, airplay, etc... can get anyone completely nuts, believe me. We're talking about millions and millions of $.
