John 00 Fleming Interview ahead of CR6

Good interview. I've always wanted to know when, to follow on from 'Licensed To Thrill' and 'For Your Ears Only', John is going to release a compilation called 'The Psy Who Loved Me'.

Thanks for letting me do it, Sam. This was the first proper interview I've ever done, and I wanted to get away from rigid Q&A and have more of a conversational approach. The original transcript was over twice as long as this, I had to cut it right down for the write-up.

One of the better interviews I have read by far, nice work SYSTEM-J.

Its always interesting for those of us who were not around during the golden ages of dark progressive music to hear some insight into it.

I promised I'd make my first artist album probably a decade ago, and it got a bit tiring for people to keep saying "Come on, where is it?" So I've put all that I learned in that world into this album. The whole album I've made into one musical story so when you press play, you're not going to get bored until it ends. I think a lot of albums today are just a show off of huge hits because it's a tool, a marketing tool for them to become more famous. Markus Schulz recently said about his artist album; he put loads of vocals on it because that's the only way he could keep his radio show. So then his musical integrity is getting dictated because that's the way he's going with his business model. He has to keep making vocals to keep his radio show. When you look at a band, they get their singles which are the big hits which help get their marketing out, but when they make an album it's the tracks that they truly love, and I think people have forgotten that about artist albums. All they're doing is looking at it as a big marketing tool, so you look at it and it's 20 tracks, all big banging mainroom tracks with vocals. But mine, I've gone to that traditional kind of artist album: it's me showing the musical side of me, so yes you've got the usual tracks you'll hear in the club, but also you're gonna hear some downtempo ones, some breaks, some... I don't know how to describe them, leftfield kind-of tracks, but then it's me showing what I truly love in the studio as an artist."

This was a well-done interview. Jack you're good.

I have to agree. This was one of the better artist interviews I've read in a while. Probably because it wasn't just the standard "what are you up to currently?" drivel.

Actually, most of it was (content wise, that is). But because it was done in a more conversational manner, it's a far better read.

Actually, only three or four questions were scripted. Most of it was just off the cuff conversation, although it can be hard to get a word in edgeways when John starts talking about a subject he's passionate about.

Great interview, can't wait for that double CD release. Hopefully some more details will come out soon cause I definitely want a physical copy.

Thumbs up, nice interview. Already knew his stance on classic trance nights, but good to have the extended explaination behind it.

I don't agree with him that there hasn't been any good new future classics born in the past decade. I do agree that the scene has been manipulated.

i am the ultimate anti-fanboy and yet i find myself agreeing with and getting excited over everything joof says/plays/supports and produces. great interview.J00F!!!!!!!
