Do you consider Traffic and Adagio for Strings good?

what do you guys think about Traffic and Adagio? am I the only one that finds these tracks cheesy?

these tracks are kinda glorified by the masses, when really there are better tracks produced/remixed by Tiesto.

I like them both, I just don't think they are on par with Tiesto's older songs.

though these tracks are cheesy, it doesn't mean it's not good...

how do you guys feel?

I feel these tracks aren't worth serious discussion anymore, so here's that 'dut dut dut' video again.

Whilst I fear for my credibility, I think 'Traffic' is an absolute banger!

For me that track is underrated, if anything. Everyone thinks it's absolute crap because Tiesto put his name on it, where as if some unheard of producer had made it, I think it would have gone down as a good underground tech-trance record for the time

'Adagio for Stings' pisses me off quite a bit. His best track is 'Suburban Train'

Posted by Kilixpree on Jan-04-2013 10:17:

adagio for me is just trouse

but traffic works very well in a bigroom!

For the record, I don't really mind the Max Walder remix of this, but even that version cannot fully cover up how ridiculously simplistic and crass the original is.

You people should stop with this nonsense "tiesto produced". Tiesto has never produced anything. He got lucky to appear at the right moment.
"His" most famous tracks are rip-off's, or completely made by ghost producers.
He built his name upon tracks like "Voyage" or "Destination Sunshine". Many people on the net still believe these are his own creations.

Well smarty pants. The really early tracks (pre 98/99) before when he started producing with Geert Huinink were totally by the mister himself.

Also, the fact that the tracks have been produced by someone else does not make the music itself any less. That argument is just a way for bittered producers to think more highly of themselves.

Whilst that is very difficult to argue with, I'd say a lot of the big club tracks that everyone loves from back then are equally basic.

I guess I was just happier when I used to be able to go clubbing and hear stuff like this thrown in to the mix, as opposed to exclusively fluffy uplifting stuff that completely dominated the scene a few years later

Posted by rubez on Jan-04-2013 15:33:

don't like tiesto's adagio. apart from sounding crap, it's like he just wanted in on the act after ferry's awesome mix.

and traffic is pretty bad, though i do remember liking the montana remix.

the best tiesto thing by far is flight 643. a masterpiece of its time.

sometimes the KISS principle works, even in EDM world

I'm sure from producing POV people can rip Traffic apart, but it does work in club setting

I prefer the William Orbit version of Adagio, and I was never a fan of Traffic.

Actually, I think Traffic really takes the cake in terms of having absolutely nothing going on beyond a kick drum and two obnoxiously loud notes on a synth. Hell, even Theme From Norefjell at least had some sort of melody.

Not a fan of those two tracks but I do like the following two:

And this mix of his was great when you first heard it. Remember how much of a big deal it was when it was going around and in building the tiesto hype

Posted by Bierheld on Jan-04-2013 16:47:

Both are extremely basic, they were unusually banging for trance standards but if you look at what sort of techno was in vogue at the time it's really nothing to write home about. Lethal industry was even worse. I love how his worst work somehow had the biggest success.

There was a good post concerning this topic in one of Pluviose's other hundred Tisto topics. Basically he is purely a collaborative producer, operating under a million aliases with lots of other guys. Just a product of his time really.

Traffic is simple, is a rip off... but completely destroys the dancefloor, a real banger, solid kick, solid bass, pristine hats a good hook... in this case simpler = better.

I can say the same about Adagio 4 strings, the string part is very cheesy i don't like it... I am tired of this track but i remember being a huge fan of it when i started listening to trance.

I used to buzz my tits off listening to that when I first got in to trance

Posted by SYSTEM-J on Jan-04-2013 17:30:

Who cares if Tiesto hand crafted the tracks himself in a rural pottery barn in Switzerland or if they were completely ghost produced by a genocidal African dictator? The tracks stand or fall on their merit, and both tracks are fucking terrible. And Psychofuk is rubbish as well.

Wait, what?

Don't use the term cheesy to describe such a piece, you just don't do it. Have some respect for real music FFS. Tiesto and all that aside.

Posted by Rodri Santos on Jan-04-2013 18:09:

original classical piece is not bad, i'd not compare it to Mozart, Vivaldi, Dvorak etc... but proves that there's still good classical music to be made.

Putting it with a cheesy string synth is what does not fulfill...

THis must be the most controversial track in all edm history, from barber's to william orbit to ferry corsten, finally Tiesto and the unfamous remixes of tiesto's "original". And now i've seen Ferry COrsten playing "Adagio without strings"

This.

They aren't really that bad -- they could have been much worse like, for example, that "Psychofuk" track. What's funny is that nobody wants so as much to admit that Tiesto took "Psychofuk" and made a better version of it.

These tracks are also much better than a lot of what passes off as "real trance" (e.g. Age of Love, We Came in Peace, Aceperience 1) even if you add bonus points to the latter for being released a decade earlier. Good luck explaining that to aspies.

edit: alright, I think I exaggerated a little lol. the above may apply to adagio for strings, but traffic is worse and so it would be about the same if you added bonus points.

Posted by Looney4Clooney on Jan-05-2013 02:41:

production is ok. Nothing bad , the leads in both have been copied by many so they were influential. Adagio is a remix which is also the main element of the track so despite how brilliant it is , can't give tiesto et al. credit for that.

so ya. good. They were current for the time they were released.

Danny Tenaglia ‎ Elements (1997)

When I heard this track the first thing I thought of was traffic
