Xfer Records' Cthulhu Arp/Chord Plug-in
For those that haven't heard about it yet, I thought I'd give a heads up on this new tool from Steve Duda's Xfer Records (Nerve, LFO Tool). It's apretty cool arpeggiator and chord effect that works with any virtual instrument.
Looks like it has some nice tricks up its sleeve and it's only $40 or so, well worth a look imo.

think ill pick this up, $39 is worth a punt
lol @ copypasta buttons
Looks like a must have to me
Will give it a shot, looks like good brain-storming session tool for me lol - always like to go through few melodic variations - appreciate for this info!
Cheers,
Darek
for someone like myself who doesnt have any musical theory background this could be a nice help - also i find Live's arp a bit basic and limited
its interesting what that guy Steve Duda says about that being deadmau5's secret weapon for a while, i love some of the chord progression he uses in some tracks
this one in particular, nothing extremely complicated but i like it
great production actually, vocal sits really well
Good to see some SP love
plug in looks great too

also like his production flow, very detail and picky lol.
Looks really cool but a bit of a ball ache to work with Logic (apples fault) but will give it a go.

| Originally posted by zodiac9 I'm not a big deadmau5 fan, but that is a great song. When I first heard it I had to look and see who produced it, was surprised to see it was him. That is a great chord progression. I can come up with chord progressions on my own, but a tool like this might give me a creative boost. I was sort of against using chord helpers, but I can see the use for them now. I choose to call it "chord exploring". It's likely most of us, even the musically gifted, are not exploring the full range of chord progression possibilities. |

yeah I've been hammering this for days, it's freeakin ace, best 40 bucks I've spent on a plug-in in... well days.
(I've had pretty rampant gas lately with all these sales and whatnot!)

and begin the issues with people with bad ears that don't ear the inner voices which sound awful. Not sure why he didn't program some sort of algorithm to avoid awkward voicing. I always think tools like this are rather pathetic but oh well,

no , i think it up to a producer to think of the example in its harsh awkward form and construct something from the pattern that sounds acceptable. This is at best a simulation.
i got this now
got a reasonable of grasp of basic music theory, think this is an interesting tool
unless im missing something it doesnt tell you which key your in for each preset. You could work it out but would take a bit of time - so you just have to try and find the chord that resolves things by ear.
also it would be really useful to be able to drag midi data out of there. When i use this i will prob just end up entering the chords i like in the piano roll and using it as an inspirational jump start.
do find it inspiring though - just ordered a book on harmony i need to learn more about this shit!

I haven't even looked at the video as I already know it's not for me, but as a potential source of inspiration I kind of see the point. You must be able to already tell if something's going to work or not though. I guess it'd be something that I'd use to maybe trigger a chord that I probably wouldn't have gone to myself. One can get stuck in a rut sometimes.
