Clubs playing decent music

Hi, i am someone that like great music sadly all the clubs i have been to are playing absolute crap radio garbage. I heard that circus and stereo are good places for afters. Are there any other clubs besides the afterparty ones ? I would like some real techno played ou there but i wouldn't mind nice house music.

Peopl in the old port
Le Bleury
Club House which is above Rosalie, i went once and was pleasantly surprised by Jay London playing good house beats
Le Belmont has dubstep
Gay clubs: Apollon & Unity
Lounges/caf: Laika, Billy Kun

Thanks for the suggestion guys, so far le Bleury seems to have the best music for tonight, so it will be him and maybe stereo after that. New York city gas is featiring Skrillex and some other frightening names. Le Velvet i dont know what they play than it s supposed to be minimal and techno. The Gay clubs arent for me as for Belmont, i only listen to very few dubstep artists, maybe when one of them will show up i will go. Bar and Danome at first sight arent that intresting music wise. Maybe i am wrong.

Daom is your best bet. Best music cheap booze. Small loft party style venue. Check out both Le Bleury and Daom, they are similar

Edit: Le Bleury tonight with Sid le Rock and Tenzin will be awesome and you will hear techno for sure. Enjoy!

it sux that montreal doesnt have a bigger club that plays any sort of edm!!!! all the place that have been listed above are very small, and just feels like dancing in a tiny basement. new city gas rarely has any techno lol.(but toolsrooom night shall be interesting)

I am so tired of goin to afterhours for descent music... montreal general crowd is just stuck to their commercial crapppppppppppp!!!!

Cherry was the best. I miss that place.

Don't hate the player, hate the game. Only being able to open for 5 hours a night is not a great business proposition for most people, especially if the venue won't be playing popular music. Check out the clubs listed and get to know your local DJs and what they play.

So it was le Bleurry yesterday, cool music but it was more of a bar than a club. Nontheless it's a place to checkout. Stereo it will be today.

Be grateful for what we already have . Montreal is a drugy city and after hour scene fits its best. It's not about commercial and not because at the end of it all, are you going for music or to get drunk and chase tail.

Posted by shonguiz on Jan-12-2013 17:54:

Well i think his frustration is understandable, before coming there i thought Montreal was some sort of Mini Tokyo or Mini Berlin, given all the praise it's been given by the big names, the great festivals it hosts. So i thought there would be more Guillaume the coutu djs playing but turns out that all the clubs that i have been to at Crescent and St-Laurent play the shittiest commercial garbage avialable.

Ah but as the underground grows (ignore the contradiction/irony), can Montreal afford to sustain good bookings?

What's wrong with drinking and meeting girls? People have different reasons for going out. If die hard music fans were the only ones paying a cover, afterhours clubs would never be able to stay open for business. Do what you want, have a great time, and show others the same respect.

I'm not saying that chasing girls is bad at all...But if I go to Buena Note or to Santos with one of my group of friends, they're not going there for the musical experience. 1) Dress well, 2) Get crunk, 3) Get some crunked out girls. That's your goals pretty much.
While if you go to an after-hour, you're going for the musical experience. 1) Dress confy, 2) Get candy, 3) Enjoy the experience with your crew + crowed.
Two totally different experiences.

These are your take on how you see these places. If you think the majority of people go to afterhours clubs just for the music, you're being naive. I personally agree with your take on it, but I don't expect everyone else to. Again, do it the way you see fit, and allow others the same respect.

tail is the bonus if everything else is there but hard to find a solid combo of everything during earlier hours (vibe, fresh music, girls, large scale, etc)

Shonguiz, maybe your best best for large-scale crowd and fresh music during reasonable hours would be Piknic. As you mentioned earlier, the big regular-hours clubs are playing cheese, unfortunately.

seeeing how sold out it was from event like nicole moudaber.carl cox.danny tenaglia.dubfire.richie hawtin! these r not even that mich undwrground djs

can those djs fill out a venue like new city gas!? why dont they boook a little bit more of underground stufff in bigger clubs?? the douchbags will still be gettin their 3000 dolla table. and i bet a bunch of people would b willin to pay 40 bux to c them.

i went to crap dash berlin last weeek and it was totalllly packed.

I'd say Stereo Nightclub and UN (if they didn't change since last time I went). Not sure anything can top that in town.
Those are the best for Progressive House.

For Techno, you'll get your dose of progressive techno at Stereo Nightclub also.

Now, as of Trance, there is not that much venues honestly, I don't think there's even one venue that hosts top quality trance (underground). Underground event producers are normally renting a room for their underground raves (eg: Tech-Safari by Rikam)

Top quality EDM in clubs is mainly oriented towards Progressive Techno/House.

I hope there would be more choice but that's almost all about it.

edit: I forgot to mention Igloofest and Piknik Electronik

Actually, Circus pretty much has all the progressive house bookings right now.

At the moment, yes. Stereo still book the best progressive house DJs (tribal).

I woulnd't answer Circus to the question asked in the thread, it's way too much commercial (trance bookings and top 40 room)

Posted by Adam420 on Jan-24-2013 00:05:

How is tribal house & progressive house the same thing?

Posted by technoaddict on Jan-24-2013 00:06:

pretty much circus or stereo, they also got the boomin sound systems

Does UN still even exist? I think it's called Peopl now.

As for trance, I'm far from an expert, but I think Le Passeport still has weekly or bi-weekly events.

I went to stereo, it was decent.
