TIMO MAAS
(4twenty, hope recordings, Kinetic, germany)

Timo's music is unique: take breakbeats, filtered and cut-up samples, futuristic sounds and colossal basslines, stick it all in a blender spinning at 130bpm and what you get is breakbeat-based club music with all the savvy production tricks that allow it to hold the main room at peak-time energy levels. The funky 31yr old German's production skills first became apparent on early releases for Hope Recordings - a label that also boasts seminal tracks by the likes of Max Graham and Starecase. For those who missed them first time round, tracks like Infected with a mindfunk and Der schreiber were made available again with the fine Depeche Mode titled compilation Music for the Maases, playfully referred to as the 'Timo Maas value pack'. But what really broke his name to all and sundry was the seminal Dooms Night remix, which was caned by everyone from Norman Jay to Seb Fontaine to Adam Freeland and even Oakenfold. Timo's production style and his Djing are unique he's a man with a mission, a man sick of the "cheesy shit" that clogs up the clubs and the charts, stifling creativity: In a world of the rent a jock playing almost identical sets fitting into this weeks popular style Timo stands out from the crowd by being simultaneously bullish enough to do his own thing while clever enough to carry it off with such aplomb that it leaves most of us aghast. Please welcome Timo Maas to Atlanta for this very special night.
