I hate the term "EDM"

I can't, i can't stand hearing EDM this EDM that. Since the explosion of electronic music, or rather diarrhea that is dubstep and trouse, in US, everything is EDM.

Yes, I know EDM stands for Electronic Dance Music.

This is basically a new term for when everybody used to call it Techno.
Castles in the sky- Techno, Prodigy- Techno, Depeche Mode - Techno, etc etc.

I can't fucking stand it. Fucking Neon YOLO/SWAG movement.

/rant over.

When someone says they "Love all EDM" I do a 360 and walk away. Red flag for I don't know shit about anything but skrilldicks and David Guido.

Exactly this!

BTW shouldn't it be 180?

It's an inside joke if your not in the know, the joker will just laugh at your frustration.

EDM is probably the best acronym and descriptor for this type of music. It's much better than the "techno" label. I just think it bothers people because the noobs use it and the more underground crew doesn't want anything to do with the yolos

Posted by PoLskA on Feb-21-2013 15:34:

yea i just refer to it as electronic music...

Posted by TaurusNYY on Feb-21-2013 15:40:

I hate when I tell people I like Techno and they instantly think of DeadMau5, or Skillrex or some other cheesy name they associate cause they read an article on the Kings of EDM UGGGG!!!

i agree, 10-15 years ago you tell a friend or classmate you were going to see a "dj" they would say "oh isent that rave techno music"
then they would always have to say something about E and glowsticks

i think this term is a lil more laid back and up to date
but yea this whole new generation of clubbers is just annoying
you didnt see these people 5 years ago now they are just flooding house/trance parties and alot of them arent even that respectful to themselves or people around them when partying

if they ever start going to blk market parties than were in trouble

Eh...saying something like "I love a lot of different EDM" is a lot easier than saying "I love drum & bass, trance, deep house, psy and minimal" or whatever the case may be. It's very similar to why I say "happy holidays" instead of "merry christmas and happy new year"...less words.

It used to be when I told people that I listened to DJs they were like "Oh, so basically you like videogame music". I honestly liked that better. Now, with EDM, they associate it with neon clothes, kids in braces on molly, and YOLO.

It's awful. I appreciate that the scene has blown up for some reasons (ease of access) but I don't like the crowds. I guess, can't have your cake and eat it too?

Yet, I bet those same people that called it video game music/or that its gay, are raging out to guetta/djbl3nd/dubstep/whatever now, cause its the cool thing to do.

Yeah, I agree, i hate how that shit is associated with the name now.

I think its funny how the sae jocky bro douchebags that would hate on house and techno have now figured out going to these shows is a god way to mack on girls. Bros ruin everything (although I'm sort of a bro in a good way.)

Posted by Excess on Feb-21-2013 18:49:

i always said electronic and/or actually labelled the genres. same guys i knew that hated on me for listening to techno garbage now listening to 'edm' or even worse 'progressive house' - lol. that always grinds my gears even worse

i like it. because to me it tell me right away that this person likes: trause , armada trance , or skrillex dubstep kinds.

its a new term and it is associated with those "new" styles. i am not offended or irritated when someone mentions this. it is not their fault. They are fresh to this and clearly not informed nor educated enough to know that this is a very wide generalization of the term electronic dance music.

i mean it is a way better generalization then techno. EDM does actually include all sounds.

Posted by djnoonstar on Feb-21-2013 19:58:

Isnt his old news most of people who listened to "EDM" before the term edm was created hate it..

I usually say Electronic Music or Dance Music..if not the exact genre, Techno, Tech-House, Deep whatever

and to the people that call everything with a 4 on the floor beat "techno"..ahhh

You know that the term "EDM" was used around this forum since 2004? But, I get what you're saying. These days, it's all mixed in with the rage, swag and YOLO generation.
