Smiley DJ new to trance

Hey everyone,

I have been listening to rap/rock and roll my entire life up until this summer when I was introduced to trance by an austrian DJ and have since fell in love with eletronic music, mainly trance. I know pretty much nothing about trance except the fact that I love it. I do have some questions though. I have heard and love paul oakenfolds mixes. I love his 2000 mix @ space in ibiza, and his mix in havana (not sure on the date). anyways, I hear some eletronic songs and they sound terrible to me, and I will hear other songs and Love them. from the information gathered, the songs that I mainly do not like are breakbeat (:conf the faster paced songs that I can listen to all day are 'trance' (:conf. I really like darude, is there any other artists that produce a similar sound to darude??? I am just looking to gather a huge trance collection and was looking for some advise on who to buy/look for/download. Any advise on anything trance would be greatly appreciated guys. Thanks a lot!!

a new trance fan, Tyler

Welcome to the wonderful world of trance!

You'd be well advised to grab anything by Push, Ferry Corsten, Armin van Buuren, Rank 1, Tiesto.. for starters. Those are some huge names in trance, pretty much everything produced by them is quality. If you like to hear livesets, Paul Van Dyk (and the previous ones mention) has some excellent ones to check out.

And about Darude, he's not very highly considered as most of his songs use the exact same samples in them with a few things changed (read: cheese) and also very overplayed songs. I'm not sure of any songs that sound like his..except well his own

This should be enough to get you started, enjoy.

wassup...its coo to hear you gettin into trance..
1st of all see what kind of style/genre of trance you like...such as psy, hard, uplifting, progressive etc...after that find out who produces songs in that genre...
as for darude..i think youll find other producers that have 10000 million times more talent than that guy
some recommendations for songs to dl are:
marco v - rise
marco v - g.o.d.d (marco v.ision remix)
paul van dyk - take me higher
pulp victim - dreams last for so long
lange feat. skye - drifting away (hiver and hammer remix)
airbase - spin
redd square - in your hands (minimalistix remix)
cosmic gate - the truth
joker jam - innocence

the ones listed above are various styles so if you like 1 artists style just post it and well hook you up...

My advice... find your own taste.

1. Download all the sets from gttp://www.tranceaddict.com/livesets.shtml and more sets at http://d2k.dedserver.org. Just start listening and your ears will tell you what you like.

2. Read up on news from this forum but don't take opinions to heart.

well, it's ok that you like darude...for now. i mean that's where i started at. but once you start to download and hear quality trance, then you'll laugh at yourself for even listening to darude and the like.

it takes some time though to find out your taste, it won't come overnight. but meanwhile, if you like faster paced songs, then try hard trance, and a lot of people are converted into trance by this style. i personally like uplifting trance so i'm not the best person to recommend stuff, but i know a lot of people like:

dumonde, george acosta, nu nrg, dj scot project, cosmic gate are some

anywho, good luck, and i'm sure you'll be addicted soon

nope never

I dont like Darude... I wouldn't recommend anything similar to Darude... well maybe big cheesy synth riff instrumental trance like Dumonde or something... yuck

Posted by bluelimitd on Sep-19-2002 19:08:

haha, yeah darude was just the first artist i heard. i think i heard him on MTV or something. I will try to stay away from him, his songs are kind of repetitive. I downloaded the Nu NRG - orgasmatron (9-7-02) and LOVED it. I also have some paul van dyk remixes that I love. I am thinking that I am into hard trance as well as uplifting trance. I like the music that you can blast in your car and people say "what is this sh**?!?!?! I LOVE IT!"

soon you wil get this jist of whats happening mate.

nice to see a new trancer

Posted by djrichy on Sep-19-2002 19:24:

perhaps try the cosmic gate remix of Dumonde - God Music, or something more easy going like 4 strings - Diving.

Posted by bluelimitd on Sep-19-2002 19:25:

I am on rapid download mode for all the artists you guys recommended, I am trying to find my taste. I like redd square - in your hands (minimalist remix). I also really like a song by Paul Oakenfold called 'this is trance'. also i like the song 'fields of love' by ATB & York. also I like cosmic gate - the truth. I really like the song cosmicman - back to unity. Oh yeah i REALLY like elastica - the audience (ext mix). I dont know why, but that song just really appeals to me. I also like Eon - pocket damage. I also really like a marco V remix of Future of sound london - papua new guinea. Also Paul Oakenfold - binary finary, paul van dyk - techno energy (club mix), rapid eye - circa forever, vac scene my emotion (kid vicious remix), William Orbit - barbers adagio for strings. I hope this helps!

one more thing about my taste, and is anyone with me on this.... female lyrics dont appeal to me all that much either. its not that i despise them, I just think it takes a little away from the beat and focuses the listeners attention elsewhere. I mean lyrical songs go good with live sets and such once in a while I think, but as far as listening to one single song, I dont really like lyrics. what are some good non-lyrical songs?

Posted by bluelimitd on Sep-20-2002 00:36:

one more thing. I really like dumonde. I like the riffs and extorsions of it. That is my taste I think. Upbeat fast music that just gets people jumping. DuMonde. Is this classified hard trance?
