Shooting videos at WMC and Ultra
What's the best way to get quality sound at loud events like this? Not too concerned with getting crystal clear sound and amazing bass (cost is an issue), but I want something that can "handle" the intensity and not sound distorted. Anyone have any suggestions?

I use a Nikon S8100 camera. 1080p recording works really well. Some events it will come out good and others will be on distorted side. It takes time to find the right one in most cases.

IPhones aren't too bad. Only mono sound but they can handle the intensity a lot better than Samsung's.
Here's a video I took at grotesque festival last year with a 4s, I think that was pretty much as loud as sound gets. Sometimes it's better when the sound is not as loud, sometimes it's even worse like outside in wind.

Still distorts but my galaxy s3 is completely useless for club sound in comparison. Better phone in almost every other way imo but forget about audio recording its just painful to listen to

In quiet environments the s3 takes better sound, and in stereo, but it just can't handle high intensity. I've heard Nokia's have the best sound recording in phones but they run Windows mobile ugh, so I'd prefer an iPhone.
Anyway a dedicated camera will probably take better sound, and if you can get an external Mic that's even better but not very convenient. Here's an example from my Panasonic zs20. Pretty poor bass response, and I think iPhone is clearer in the mids, but no distortion at all

There may very well be better handheld cameras out there I'd love to hear some examples but it's pretty hard to find reviews of the audio quality when most people just care about the picture
