the us govt did it again,

many of you may have been unaware of the quality of washington dc's party called buzz, but it's gone now, just like twilo. this is another sad, sad day for the clubscene.

09.18.02: BUZZ ENDS ITS NINE YEAR RUN IN WASHINGTON, DC
On Wednesday, September 18th, after increased pressure from the DC Government, the United States Military and the United States Federal Government, Buzzlife Productions announces that its weekly event, Buzz will no longer take place in Washington, DC, effective immediately.

A two and a half year investigation of DC nightclubs was launched by the military to supervise the off-duty hours of their local personnel. Unfortunately, the irresponsible behavior of a few triggered a large-scale clampdown on all military nightlife activities. In early September Nation nightclub was declared off-limits to all servicemen. However, the "witch-hunt" was not over.

In an unprecedented move, the United States Military and the DC Police Department joined forces to share information and resources targeting both the Friday night event Buzz and the nightclub Nation. Innocent patrons were harassed and Nation management was threatened with legal action that could result in the loss of their liquor license.

"It is unfortunate that events that cater to the youth of America historically become targets of government agencies," comments Amanda Huie, Buzzlife Director of PR and Marketing. "As leaders in this industry, we will not allow Buzz to become a scapegoat, and in essence, tarnish all electronic dance music events."

Buzzlife, in July of 2002, exposed the injustice of The RAVE Act. This act, being pushed through the Senate, is a clear violation of civil liberties, a persons right to choose the music they listen to, and an innocent businessmans right to provide a venue for the music their patrons request. Buzzlifes leadership resulted in national media coverage, protests around the country and the chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, Senator Leahys decision to remove himself as a sponsor of the bill.

Buzzlife Productions is Americas leader in electronic dance music marketing and event promotion. First created in 1993 after a series of successful weekly and one-off events, the company rose to become the #1 Mega-Club in America, as voted by URB Magazine for the past four years.

"We are looking to the future," says Scott Henry, President of Buzzlife Productions. "With a love of electronic dance music and the people in this scene, Buzzlife will continue to bring the best music to the United States."

all you people from the states who are complaining... instead of throwing your hands up in the air and saying "fuck you US govt! im going to move now wahhhh"... why not try to DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT.

fight the RAVE act. there are resources, use them, do something.

2 articles from drcnet.org, the first is informational, the second is about a protest and how it went
http://www.drcnet.org/wol/252.html#raveact
http://www.drcnet.org/wol/254.html#technocapitol

http://www.drugpolicy.org/
^^ large article linked on main page, link to information on how to tell your senators you dont agree with this

http://www.emdef.org/
^^huge article on main page, including protests (already past, looks like some of you could have gone), and news and events that have happened related to it as well as links

http://www.aclu.org/action/rave107.html
^^free fax, speak out against the RAVE act

http://buzzlife.com/buzzdc/page.cfm...s&contest_id=13
^^online petition

once again, there are options. rather than silently shaking a fist at a government that wont see it, or voicing your anger on a message board that the government wont read, go make your voice heard. you have the choice. do it.

you know what? on some scale, i agree with you. There is soo much freedom to do whatever in Europe, yet people in the USA dont fully understand that until they have experienced Europe.

are you sure?

Posted by LOBIE1 on Sep-19-2002 20:26:

The two of you continue to say you hate this country. Leave. Try to make it in another country. Not to say you wont make it but this place that you hate so much is a paridise compared to most places.

what i'm worried about is the influence that the US has on canada...
there are already signs of the influence... here in calgary canada, the city had passed a bylaw that puts heavy restrictions on raves and they only allow so many licenses to be issued each year

i think we should fight this together... look at how many people that are on this board who enjoy electronic music
if everyone put their names on a petition, and got all of their non-TA friends to sign it... that's one mighty big petition...

i for one support the fight, before it makes it's way into canada and tarnishes our scene here

They always portrayed Buzz in a bad light... just like on 20/20 or whatever last year when they were showing all the young gals going to Buzz and hitting on the politicians that went there in the hopes they'd get an intern job.....

blah

Posted by xKaoSx on Sep-19-2002 23:14:

Hello! Hi

Yea- that blows- why dont they just ban public venues and loud music next. We can listen to people speaking and dance to it!
