Newb to the genre looking for a particular sub-genre

Hi all. I know nothing about electronic music, but I've been listening to Michael McCann's wonderful soundtrack for Deus Ex: Human Revolution and now I've got the bug.

What is it? Does it fall into any particular genre, other than electronic? I assume it's ambient, too? Is it dark ambient, or a particular kind of industrial, or anything.

I ask because I want to find other artists who work in a similar style (Cyberpunk, I guess you could call it?), and knowing nothing about electronic music I don't know where to begin.

I already have the soundtracks to Blade Runner and Dredd. I also liked several of the tracks from the Terminator: Salvation OST, particularly Opening.

Any suggestions?

I think part of my problem in finding electronic I like is that I'm not looking for dance music; it's usually too upbeat and frantic. Obviously ambient is a good place to start looking, but I'd really like some targeted suggestions.

I assume you're already familiar with the Mass Effect series soundtracks?

Also, check out Hybrid Soundsystem 01. The first disk has lots of moody, ambient, film-score-like soundscapes. Second disk is more of a straight '07-era progressive/tech house mix.

Try a label called Tympanik Audio. There are lots of artists there making dark ambient and industrial that has a very similar mood to the Human Revolution score.

Thanks for the recommends, yall. If you want to suggest what you think might be good avenues of expansion from my starting point, I'm all ears. I guess that's my way of saying I've kinda come back from the "no dance music" thing, after thinking about it.

Well, the soundtracks you've listed are all quite different, united only by a sense of moody cinematic ambience, so it's hard to know where to start.

What do you think of this?

I know you're a cheddar-munching unicorn troubler, but surely the Human Revolution soundtrack is a similar breed of introspective ambience?

to be fair I couldnt listen to 100% of the mix, so maybe I missed the good stuff but no I found HRs soundtrack far more melodic (especially the trailer music).

Wonder if OP ever found what he was looking for. Remember Me by DONTNOD (now famous for Life Is Strange) has a similar cyberpunk setting and filmic/ambient electronic score too.

simply look for game music + remixes. OC remix might be a good start.

Some examples (different styles):

edit: just saw the date of the original post...well...
