Invisible Grin What are your sleep habits like: The sleep thread!

The caffeine thread has me wondering, what are your sleep habits like? How much sleep is ideal for you/how many hours do you need a night to function optimally? What's the minimum amount of sleep you need just to get through the day? And do you nap or practice relaxation regularly?

My ideal is about 6-7 hours, I think. But I can function well with as little as 5 hours. Any less than that and I will be nodding off towards the end of the day if I'm not busy doing something.

I never usually sleep longer than 8 hours unless I'm really exhausted, and it doesn't matter when I go to bed or how many hours I get if I don't have to be up for any reason in the morning - I will always wake up when the sun is rising (this is when I have the best sleeps).

I also don't sleep well during the day. After night shifts the most sleep I get is about 5 hours, but oddly it's totally fine - because I'm a night person, heh.

Immediately after I nut and most of times when I'm blazed

Yeah if I'm gonna get blazed I basically need to take the whole day off, lol. Friend invited me over to smoke a j and I had to pass because I knew I wanted to go to the gym later.

I actually love rotting on my couch on my days off, having Netflix sessions and napping periodically. I wish I was a cat!

Ideal for me is 7 to 7.5, but I sleep badly so often that I'm used to just powering through the day on much less. I've had sleep problems off and on for a long time but I think what really screwed me over was working a job for a couple years where I was waking up most days at 3 AM. It seems like since then it's somewhat regular that I'll wake up at 4 or 5 and not be able to fall back asleep. Never drink caffeine.

It doesn't help that practically all my dreams involve brutal murders of some sort.

I smoke frequently I don't get that lazy can't move all day feel it definitely brings out a creative side in me I like to paint while blazing. I agree though nothing beats a sofa session with Netflix and a gpen full of wax ... speaking of sounds like a good time to relax right now

Yeah getting up at 3am is total ass, that has to be the worst. I know a few people who work super early shifts or far away and have to be up at 3-4 am. God, I feel a stress response kicking in just thinking about having to be up at that time.

Also lol @ brutal murder dreams...my dreams only get as violent as beating the fuck out of people. Last night I dreamt about stuffing my face urgently with all kinds of delicious cookies. It was like I knew I was about to wake up.

I've been napping a lot recently. I smoke too so I get mad sleepy at night lol

I can't sleep during the day at all, I've never been able to, even as a kid. I rarely even use an alarm clock because the second the sun comes up I wake automatically. That sucks in the summer, when it starts getting light at 4:30am, but not so bad in the winter when I can sometimes sleep until 7am or so. Most nights I get about 7 to 8 hours of sleep, but I can function on quite a bit less, as long as it's not too many nights in a row of shitty sleeping.

lol!

Last night was several shootings in a convenience store, plus another dream where there was a serial killer loose; it turned out to be a woman, and the part I remember most vividly was that she was calmly taking a shower with a bloody corpse next to her on the shower floor. It's weird, because I'm often not present in these dreams, at least not in any active sense. It's like my brain just decides to make very violent movies for me to watch every night. Though it's not too rare to have dreams where I beat people to death, either.

Man, fuck napping when I was a kid. I HATED being forced to take an afternoon nap, and I never ever slept during nap time. It was one of the worst tortures for me a child, laying there, eyes closed + pretending to sleep, for what seemed like the whole goddamn afternoon when I could have been playing instead.

Hahahaha, I find that hilarious. I'm sure it would be different if I were having the dream, but I would interested to know what the feelings are like during a dream like that. Nightmares are the only time I have experienced certain feelings, that I can't even put into words.

Posted by Vector A on Mar-22-2013 03:53:

Most of the time it's just a "wtf" feeling, like "Where did that come from?" I had to laugh at the ones I had on a recent night. There was a dream where I got robbed at gunpoint twice within hours, then another dream after that where I got robbed *again*, and in that second dream I had absolutely nothing to give them because the people from the other dream had already taken all my shit.

Posted by Silky Johnson on Mar-22-2013 03:58:

Ok, that fully made me think of Eeyore. Something so Rodney Dangerfield "I can't get no respect" about that.

Posted by OrangestO on Mar-22-2013 04:01:

Since the time change I've been going to bed between 3 and 5 in the morning.

Way too late. I hate sleeping in.

Doing it until 10 always feels wrong.

Six hours refuels my batteries. Eight and I'm great.

One to 7 is optimal state of oblivion.

EDIT:
