What sort of birds do you guys have, where you live?

And yes, being me, I obviously mean the feathered variety

Do any of you live in places where you get unique species, found nowhere else? Or what are the regular kinds that you see every day? Any pics?

Do you even notice them, on a day to day basis?

Megan has Bald Eagles nesting somewhere close, and that's pretty fucking rad, IMO.

We've had a pair of Collared Sparrow Hawks take down... something... in our yard this afternoon. Feathers everywhere.

If so, LOL, don't even get me started. There are a couple of huge fig trees across from our place, and whenever they fruit, they're covered with bats, all night. They squeal like fucking aliens, all god damn night, and I can't sleep

Well they certainly love flying over us twice a year making all kinds of noise.

One of them got lost and got it's way into my shed. Quite a shock as I was getting a rake. The ****** was a shitting machine too, had to wait 2 days for the animal control people to come and take him away.

The animal control folks thought I was lying or joking about a goose in my shed, took a while to convince them.

I tried. He wouldn't get out from behind my john deere. I gave him some bread and a dog dish with water in it.

The dumb part is the guy that came to take him away says this happens a lot.

That's pretty LOL. We don't get geese around here, at all. A surprisingly high number of ducks though.

We get quite a few Cardinals around here. They are cool... Because they're red.

No birds here. They get eaten on sight.

The other variety of birds have too many feathers down there.

Black birds, white birds, beige birds, hawks, and owls.

no, i meant pigeons. i'm totally disgusted by these animals crapping everywhere. on the bright side, they don't crap in mid-flight like seagulls.

i saw a turkey vulture feeding on roadkill the other day. pretty awesome sight actually.

By the way, my rents leave some food by the window (they live on the 6th floor) and some kiskadees show up whenever they want a snack.



I can't take a picture of those quick buggers, so here's something from Wikipedia

The most notable birds I have in my area are a big grey heron that wades around in the "lake" (man-made storm-water resevoir) down the street from my house. He's my little stoner buddy. The same "lake" is also home to a green heron, and a number of other species that I don't know the names of, and don't see anywhere else. I frequently see bird-watchers setting up camp around the bike path to check out the local avians.

I think one of the dominating species, at least during winter, in Norway, is the Great Tit, or kj�ttmeis as we call it. Had no idea what it's english name was before now :P

Also got a bunch of grouses, I guess. Black, hazel grouse and Lagopus.

Oh and in R�st, Lofoten, there are about 433 000 couples (so multiply by two) of atlantic puffins who come to get their groove on.

Edit: I can tell it's been a long time since summer, because I totally forgot about sea gulls. We have like.. really many of them. We should send them to Africa or some other poor country.

Mostly typical port-city birds around my place: seagulls, crows, sparrows, blue jays, Canadian geese, pigeons, a hawk or two, the odd heron near the river marshes.

My hometown of Prince Rupert is known for having tons of bald eagles about. Would often see a couple perched out on the cliff near where I lived. This isn't all that spectacular though, as they mostly linger near the fishing docks for leftovers floating in the harbor.
