Advice me a multiband compressor

What mb compressor do you use?

I'm looking for something to throw in the mastering chain. Adjustable knee and soft character. Something that gives presence, but makes as little damage as possible.

I have Waves C4 and the MB comp in Ozone 5. They're both good IMO, but I probably prefer C4 a little more for the rare times when I use MB compression. I used to have the Vengeance MB Comp and it was all about doing as much damage as possible - nothing subtle about it, so you'll probably want to stay away from that one.

Now that I think about, the MB comp that I use the most is PSP Vintage Warmer. It's a 3-band comp, or single-band comp, or brick wall limiter. It comes with several different versions - some smaller versions for use on tracks, and the larger versions for use in mastering or on busses. It doesn't damage audio (unless you want it to), but it can add some vintage color. It does a great job of gluing mixes.

Waves c6 and Vintage Warmer here. Melda makes a multi-band comp that is supposed to be good, too. Haven't used it though.

i cannot answer this one without a sample from you... what is your level? what is it for? do you want to master CD, nightclub, or internet stream?
do you want multi-band processors or Maximizer? or both?
there is many ways to master a sound.

would recommend a linear phase MB compressor. I think ozone's latest is rather good allowing you to use various look ahead algos. The waves ren mb is probably better than the c4 or c6. Melda does a very detailed one with lots of options. Alchemist and Wavearts's might be something to check out but they are rather expensive from what i remember and I haven't tried them.

The Renaissance Maxx bundle doesn't have a multiband compressor. Waves has a linear-phase mb compressor, though.

Sorry, if i get a little angry on this kind of subject, but you must understand what mastering is, or, how mastering process can destroy your track.

if you want to process your channel; add a compressor, add an effect, adjust your level, then your mix.
If the mix is good; the mastering will be easy & clean.

Not adding channels after channels, thinking the mastering is the solution.....

Mastering is my daytime work, and i hope I'm not irritating anyone with my comment (until your name is on top 10 )
i just feel sad to see so many good production ruined and wasted by a bad Mix.

so is a car. Multiband is pretty ubiquitous for EDM mastering. To go on a rant regarding a tool every single competent EDM mastering engineer uses is kinda stupid.

split your signal into three, add HPF on one, BPF one one and LPF on one, then add compressors and sum. there you go. any daw has it.

Mastering is unfortunately an usual mistake at the end of your final mix.
It is for us a everyday assertion to work on tracks provided by beginners, Dj or producers.
As of many friends specialized on mastering studio production, live mastering, or broadcast. Must, try to clear.

There is a fine line between Final mix and mastering, and where a multi-band compressor is a concern.

As Doctor; Give me a flat line, i will mix a beat and add life.

I use DMG Audio Compassion it does all types of dynamics and it has mod presets for emulating the best vintage compressors.

+1 for the one in Izotope Ozone 5.

I think it sounds really nice and also comes with a lot of good presets to start with. Maybe you shouldnt use presets for mastering, but it give you a good starting point and something to learn from.
