Heading to Miami on Memorial Day Weekend, where to party and stay? Suggestions?

Hey everyone, looking to seek some help for some good parties AND reasonably priced hotels to stay in for a night in Miami Beach, preferably that Saturday night (May 25). Heading down to Florida from here in NY for that weekend with 3 friends.

Where can I look for day parties/night parties/nightclub parties during that weekend? Or can someone lead me in the right direction to take 3 friends who have never really been to any EDM shows.

Also, looking to stay for that night only. If anyone can recommend any hotels that are reasonably priced, talking 2-300$, that would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for any suggestions!

This is a shitty time to go to Miami unless you love the hip-hop scene. Space might have something good though, they had Marco Carola play a marathon set last year for Memorial Day weekend. SoBe will be a mess though. If you wanna see house music, it's not the right time. Sorry to burst your bubble but you couldn't have picked a worse weekend!

BUT, if you are down with foregoing SoBe, stay at a nice hotel in Brickell (near downtown Miami). There's a lot of cool shit in Brickell -- restaurants, bars, cafes, mini-festivals during the day, etc. Kinda like a Miami version of Greenwich Village, if that makes any sense. Cool, hip, lots of stuff to do, young people, etc. Space will definitely have a good party, but lineups aren't announced that far off. Gryphon at the Hard Rock in Hollywood might have a good show that night too. You can still have a great weekend, but like I said, avoid SoBe -- it's gonna be thugged out. If you want the SoBe EDM experience, I'd suggest rescheduling for the Fourth of July. There's gonna be pool parties, a bunch of high-profile shows, etc.

Thanks for the reply. This will be the only weekend my friends and I can go down there. Parents have moved down to Orlando and they needed me to drive the car down since they flew, so I'm using this trip as a nice vacation to Orlando/Ft. Lauderdale & Miami. I will definitely keep an eye on Space. I'd love to take my friends there.

Also gotta say that be careful with bringing non-"EDM"/house music people to a place like Space. It's very "sceney" and a lot of "normal" people just flat out don't like it. Places like Mansion and Story are safer bets. But you know your friends best so if you think they're down then go for it. Just saying from past experience. Nothing worse then getting to Space at 12:30, all pumped for a great night/morning/afternoon of underground house music only to find out that the peeps you brought aren't feeling it at all. It sucks.

I'm curious by what you mean by this?

yeah I'd skip SoBe - do Ft. Lauderdale or even the keys...

What do you think it means? Club Space is not for everyone. Many people that are not accustomed to partying in such a manner don't like it. Some do, some don't. It can be an overwhelming experience to some people and of course the music isn't for everybody.

Rule 1 about Miami: Never go to Miami during Memorial Day Weekend.

Just be careful, there are gun fights during Urban Beach Week every year in Miami.

Music is one thing. But it seems to me like you are implying more, hence my question. If you're going out to party, you're going out to party. The music plays a big part in that, but how you put it it seems like there's other variables in this equation. I'm curious what exactly.

i'm guessing the fact that Space gets an 'eclectic' mix of regulars there.... for someone used to a club like LIV and just looking for girls in short dresses they might not enjoy it.

Do NOT attend an erick morillo or eric prydz event if they happen to be in town. Morillo od's on coke and no shows gigs, while prydz drinks to the point he pisses himself, makes incoherent comments on the mic and plays the same song three times in a row before getting escorted out!

Facts from this years miami music madness.

Eclectic is good, especially for "non-EDM fans" as he alluded to. At least for me it was when I first jumped into the scene.

Maybe the whole "non-EDM fans" is subject to what that exactly means when making such statements (interpretation). I just find it very broad and general to make such a statement unless you're going to make specific allegations.

They all "enjoy" EDM... but it looks like Ft. Lauderdale/The keys are a much better bet than Miami & SoBe. Looked into it and Beach Week is not something we really want to be around, not that it's bad or anything - it's just not for us. Looks like Fort Lauderdale is our best bet, with friends who live there. Can anyone recommend places to eat? And where are the good nightlife spots there for tons of drinking and dancing with a good atmosphere?

We have Sharam and myself at Gryphon on May 25th not sure if your in town then but will be a good night.

Hard Rock has all your bases covered for nightlife. Donnie is a damn good DJ and Sharam I'm sure will rock the house. That place is always fun. Go to the beach during the day, hit up the bars on the strip. Always a good time. I actually enjoy Ft Lauderdale/Hollywood more than Miami other than for music. Slightly more laid-back, not as expensive, and less trendy, but still a lot of fun.

Hey, I'm the same way. My first ever real experience with this kind of music and scene was coincidentally at Space and I fuckin' loved it.

However, most mainstream people are not going to particularly enjoy it. And if you have your sights set on staying until the sun comes up, they're probably going to end up resenting you. It's really a place for people that are into the music/scene already. Obviously there's exceptions (I'm one of them).

Sounds like the Hard Rock it is! I'm highly interested in seeing Donnie and Sharam...
