Punk SKA and Reggae
Okay this is probably mostly for pot smokers in here but anyways... Does anyone here listen to punk, ska or reggae? I know personally I love millencolin and to lesser extents I like Sum 41, Pennywise, Goldfinger and many other punk bands. I also like Sublime's ska work like same in the end. And I love sublime and marley for reggae.
Anyone else?
I like all the bands u mentioned except for sum 41, there tunes are designed to be catchy(which isnt bad) but in my opinion fail to do so. Also they and goldfinger arnt real punk, and pennywise is just barely punk.
oooh touchy subject...
i listen to a little punk...and while i dont smoke too much just now, i actually went on a millencollin dling spree the other day. i think punk is cool just cause it has the same thing that trance does, and most good music - feeling. nowadays thats the first thing i will notice. nothing beats punk for run around in circles and break stuff energy...no not even heavy metal(with SOAD excepted). alt peeps *might* say that blink182 isnt punk, i still love them, especially their old shit like Cheshire Cat. AFI is the other band i listen to in this genre.
not heavily into ska, alt yes, i did buy a no doubt album...just like the rest of the country(whether this is ska or not).
my cousin is heavily into reggae and has some really good shit he picked up in Jamaica. there just aint a reggaeaddict.com, so im not one to talk. oh, and get this! my friend - biggest smoker i know, doesnt like reggae, cause nothing happens supposedly. hes a little sheltered tho!

LESS THAN JAKE!!!!
Favourites I've enjoyed live:
Punk : NOFX & Joe Strummer (Clash)
Ska : Skatalites / Voodoo Glowskulls (ska/thrash/punk)
Reggae : Burnin Spear & Lee Perry
Influence in music production:
All-time Dub legend, electronic music pioneer and remixer extraordinaire : King Tubby
-- do yourselves a favour and d/l his shit : it's awesome hotbox music
A lotta the songs are pretty samey I guess but you gotta give the guy credit for his vision back in the 70s
As Ive said on these boars before Bad Religion is the best band ever Propigandi is good, rancid isn't bad. As far as alternative goes I really like all of 311s work and sublime is pretty damn good too.
i dunno bout 311...a band from Nebraska that stops smoking hooner...ugh...but live on punkaddicts|
punk owns all of you! =P
everyone should go see the dropkick murphys. i haven't seen them live yet, but i heard their shows are AWESOME, and they're comin to toronto soon, so i'll definitely check them out.
punk and ska doesn't do it for me... maybe i haven't heard the right stuff, but i'll take hip hop anyday for blazing over any of that stuff... reggae can be ok some times... its just that a lot of people find the lyircs to hard to understand so it gets old quick... Marley is overrated, but pass the dutchie on the left hand side is a classic sesh/party song...
Speaking of reggae... Anybody can recommend something similar to the sounding of GTA3's KJAH radio? I know it sounds non-heterosexual, but after a while I found the tunes catchy...
