leaving the vegas motor speedway...

are there any strategies to minimize time in traffic?
anything you guys have done that's helped?

Posted by DjWoody on May-02-2013 19:16:

Leave at 6am?

I did that b4 and it was a breeze. No traffic whatsoever than afterwards, did the walk of shame down the strip.

Get a shuttle pass IMO.

Posted by iLLiE586 on May-02-2013 19:36:

The only thing that will help is if you leave early.

I don't know what people expect when 115,000 people are leaving a single area simultaneously. There is nothing you can do to avoid the traffic that will occur from that.

Posted by jonmitz on May-02-2013 19:41:

possible solutions:
1) shuttle pass
2) leave early (like 2 or 3 am, lol)
3) leave late (after 6 or 7am, lol)
4) helicopter

pasquale tweeted that the shuttle buses were getting a path dedicated only for the edc shuttles this year.

leave an hour early and you zip outta there

doubt you'd come super late..but last year i arrived around 1am and ended up being forced to park at an overfilled lot.. there were hardly any cars in that lot.. i ended up staying until the very end and hardly had any traffic getting outta the lot.. took about 20 minutes from the speedway to my friends house off sahara.. i had friends who left earlier than me but parked in the more busy lots and it took em 3 hours

I did that 2 years ago, way worth it.

Almost impossible to do so last year. Steve Angello was pissed that Insomniac didn't fly him in on a chopper last year.

me and this girl came very close to doing it last year but ultimately passed on it.

one thing i find strange.. the same commpany offers the same RT flight for the NASCAR race yet its $300 cheaper per person~

The 1st year they had almost no bookings until almost the day of the event at the same pricing. last year they were almost full up.

they do have a $600 RT price if you go and come back a bit earlier than most people.

gabriel & dresden ended up pissed in the limo because of all the traffic. got out and walked over a mile to the speedway. went on 2hrs after they were scheduled

With a NASCAR race people filter in and filter out over several days, "car pooled" inside RV's etc. EDC everyone comes and goes at the same time each day.

EDC cant allow normal tent camping because too many people would overheat but they should allow camping for people with air conditioned RV's.

what does that have to do wit helicopters? people who take helicopters to NASCAR races are VIPs/people with $ who only fly in right before the race and leave right after.... its an even shorter time window than the people that go to EDC.

Nothing, this thread is called "leaving the vegas motor speedway..." Not "helicopter rides to EDC"

I was merely giving my two cents on the only option to make EDC traffic better. You have to reduce the amount of cars in and out each day.

you quoted my post about helicopters so still a bit confused

regarding the whole claim about shuttles being given their own lane into and out of the event, didn't they say the same thing last year and that didn't end up happening? or am i remembering incorrectly?

Posted by DJ RANN on May-06-2013 20:08:

wasn't there somthing about choosing the right gate to leave from saved you like a hour of traffic?

not sure, but I thought I remebered certain people talking about that

Oh, and as for leaving Vagas itself - don't even try it on Sunday night or Monday daytime. Either get up early (6am) or wait until after 7pm.

made the mistake of trying to leave at 2pm on Monday - took an hour just to get to Primms (normally 20mins) so we turned around, watched the stanley cup final and left at 8pm. Took 4.5hrs to get back to LA on a straight shot home.
