I just found out about this right now. Due to Liquified's terrible promoting, I learned about it by looking at the calendar on DJRyan's posts. Then I saw this thread. I'm kind of debating going considering the venue. Not to mention, Opera on a Saturday night. But, considering I've been trying to see Prydz for a few years I may go. I haven't been to an EDM show since Gareth Emery like a year and a half ago. I think it's past time to get out to something. Is it worth dealing with Opera to see this show?

only seen prydz twice, but both times were great nights. you'll probably get a lil annoyed and frustrated with the usual opera bullshit, but it'll probably be a good time over all.

Well, I don't hate Opera as much as other people on this forum. It's pretty much the only club I've ever known besides the old Wetbar. I've never been hassled by the staff or had any huge problems. I hate the crowd more than anything, but that kind of crowd is at a lot of EDM shows.
I love Eric Prydz, but had never seen him. Haven't seen anyone say a harsh thing about his sets, so I'm guessing it's worth feeling with some minor issues. Not going to miss one of my favorite djs because of the location.

Man, we need to get you out of your Wetbar/Opera shell. There are some pretty decent venues in the city, and if you go a bit more "underground" than Opera/Prydz, you'll find that there are a lot of shows that have really great crowds that are the polar opposite of the people you'd find at Opera.

the people that go to Opera are my friends.. the same people I see at other venues, and on facebook, and elsewhere.. Sometimes I think the people that complain are looking for a reason not to go, or not to be involved.. Illuminate your life w/ Music and Dance, everything else is simple otherwise..

Right, but what venues and shows are those? You're into the type of EDM that is more popular and edges on the more mainstream side of things (at least in the dance music world). There's nothing wrong with that, and I'm not trying to talk shit. What you need to understand is that, even if it's a different venue, the same types of artists will still attract the same kind of crowds. I go to shows where the music is wildly different from what you and your friends listen to and while, yes, there may occasionally be a couple of people from your circles at those shows, by and large the crowds are wildly different (not to mention that the promoters I support throw shows at venues that I never see you or any of the regular Opera folk so much as discuss).

That could not be further from the truth, Ryan. People complain because we have reason to complain - I'm not going to ruin this thread with yet another rant listing all of the reasons people don't like the venue, because you and I both know what those reasons are, and that they are factually-based. We get involved in and support the parts of the scene that we enjoy, and just because we don't go to Opera doesn't mean we're not still active within the music community or that we're searching for reasons not to go out.

For as much as I talk shit about the stuff that gets posted in this forum (because not many of the shows I go to in town get posted here), I still respect the fact that you and I have different tastes. I'll always fucking hate Opera, the people that work there, the crowd that goes there, and the fact of the matter is that I don't like most of the artists that get booked there. You, in turn, may not like the venues I go to or the artists that play at those parties. And that's OK. You just need to understand that when you're out at Opera having a blast, thinking, "Man, those guys just look for an excuse to not come here and dance and support good music,", myself and others are on the other side of town having a great time, sweating our asses off while supporting good music.

Opera is a glitzy shithole. There is nothing special about what they do there other than extract as much money as they can from their inebriated guests.

My biggest problem with Opera is definitely the crowd it attracts. Which is why, like you said, going to some of the different venues and seeing more underground artists are so much more fun.

Maybe I was too fucked up back in the day myself to notice them, but back when it was Eleven50, I don't remember being surrounded by a wall of high school douche bags cracked out of their mind on rolls. Hoestly felt like they switched the name back to Opera, tried to make it more upscale, and just ended up attracting the clientele I hate the most at EDM shows.

The service is below average. The sound system is below average. I could tolerate those if not for the crowd. Granted, I haven't been there in almost a year now. So I'm not sure how Opera rolls now and days with clientele, but I'm assuming they've kept the status quo.

I can't change how any of you feel. But I party at Opera, Quad, Tongue & Groove, Havana, Vanquish, IRIS, Kingdom Rave, Sound Table, Connect, and any other venue that hosts EDM Events. I go out of my way regardless of finances, crowd, sound, lighting, and any other indicator to have fun and enjoy the music. When its no longer about the music, obvious excuses ensue. Otherwise, we wouldn't be hearing why you wont be hearing Eric Prydz this Saturday night.

Nobody fucking cares where you party, or however it is you want to word your next post like it's the opening to some shmaltzy documentary about the magical world of love and unity that is underground dance music.

Good for you, but none of that makes you any better nor more passionate than the rest of us. I know a good majority of us have been to most of those venues, as well. Not only that, but I stand by my point that you'll typically go to a show at some place like Sound Table or something when it's an artist that is more suited to your taste, because I can think of a few regular shows run by (in my opinion) wonderful locals that have a great following in Atlanta, yet I've never seen you at them. But that's OK, because all of us have different musical tastes, and there's nothing wrong with that. That's all I was getting at.

When the vibe of the crowd, the people in the crowd and the staff at the event are consistently horrible enough to distract you from the music for most of the night no matter how hard you try, then that venue has a problem. As I mentioned previously, I also don't like the acts that get booked at Opera, and the thread that Liquified just made reaffirms that - I have absolutely no interest in anybody on that list (I've seen Digweed more than enough to justify going to Opera). Prydz could've been booked in my apartment and I would still be finding something better to do that night. Please, though, keep putting words in my mouth.

I don't think that I'm any different than anyone else. In fact, we're more alike than not because in most instances we're all at the same place, at the same time, enjoying the same shows. We must be there for a reason right?

I go out for music, just like you do, but we are rarely, if ever, at the same place at the same time. I know I'm starting to sound like a broken record, but we do not have the same taste in music - for instance, I won't be at a single one of the parties in your signature.

But I get where you're going with that.

I go to Kai Alce's Distinctive party every month at ST, and hit up The Gathering at Space2 monthly, also. I dig a bunch of the artists that Cardio bring out so I'll usually catch their shows when they have headliners (their local DJs tend to be a bit boring). Wiggle Factor also throw some great warehouse parties.

Really, though, the artists and type of sound that I've been into lately isn't something that very many people in Atlanta are pushing. Stuff from labels like Dial/Laid/Kompakt/Smallville/Studio Barnhus/Pampa/Innervisions/Hello?Repeat/Haunt/Aim, combined with some of the stuff that Kai and his pals are pushing. That oughta give you an idea of what I'm into.

It definitely does, and if these things are going off there's got to be a following for it. I just never see any of the promotions for it (with the exception of SoundTable parties). Only cause Parker, Bryan, Rob, and others, posts show up on my wall- lolol.. But yea, start posting some of the things you're going to in here so we can all be included. I know this is a trance forum but at this point I think anything goes..
