DOES YEAR MATTER? does it bother you how old or new a tune really is? on a Mixed CD?

when buying a album (mixed CD)

do you purchase a CD because they have the latest and greatest tunes on them? ( a mixed CD filled with all the latest tunes and floorfiller)

or

you purchase the CD because it has nice old tunes and new tunes on them?

does the year in which the tracks were produced and mixed onto the CD bother you?

does year matter ?

If a cd is mixed I don't care what tunes are in as long it is a great mix, a journey

I personally like buying CDs with tunes that ive never heard before
I love surprises

Doesn't matter since most of the time I don't know whether they are old or new

No, it doesn't matter. Track selection is important and the execution of the mix is of course critical. If the tracks work well together, why the hell not?

How old they are isn't important, but how overplayed they are is. Try not to include songs that have been thrashed, esp if its for a demo

if i had paid then i would expect most tunes to be new and me not to have heard them. This is never the case thugh, you alwats know a good few of the tunes these days thats why i just stick to live sets now

i dont care how old the tunes are, as long as they r not overplayed.

hehe tru for me too

I think a balanced mix with both old and new tunes is best. It allows tracks to be paired that people would never have thought of together, since they were produced years apart. If it's well done, it makes it very interesting.

well it doesn't bother me as the older tracks tend to fit more my style than the newer ones.. but if you're buying a just released cd to hear the last good tracks it's not good if you see too many oldies there. but generally doesn't bother me, as long as it's not overplayed shit.. a good unknown track back from '99 thrown in the middle of a cd can normally work very well

btw, just buyed yesterday "the politics of dancing".. couldn't believe when I saw that cd at a record store here in Madeira.. at last good stuff arrives, even though it's 1 year late..

To me, it really doesn't matter. As long as the tracks are good, it doesn't matter if they are new or old.

for sure. A good track/mix is good regardless of year.

Mostly I like to hear new tracks. I don't mind hearing an old one if it mixes well into the journey.
But...
I'm sure a lot of DJ's try to play mainly new tracks though. If new cd's had a lot of old tracks on them, than not many people would buy them. IMO

Are you kidding? Some of the best songs are the OLD ones. Why do you think new producers try to remix it?

Ex. Out of the Blue & Cafe del Mar

It is all about the track selection/mixing a.k.a. "journey". All that matters is where you were when you started the CD and where you ended up because if you ended up in the same place then the CD wasn't worth what you paid for.

PS Just because it was overplayed doesn't mean the tune was bad. Liking a song that became mainstream won't kill ya or make you less of person...
