Southern Sun: The next Rapture/Heaven?

I was in my local club last night when all of sudden on comes Tiesto's remix of Southern Sun This place plays your typical top 40. It was kind of funny though since everyone on the dance floor was just stunned hahhaha Anyways to the point. With this track hitting the top 40 scene, is it going to be looked upon as a good track that now sucks since it's commercialzed?

if it is commercialized then oakey has achieved his goal

This also makes Tiesto bigger over here. Plus this Elvis remix will help to. It's a shame but whatever makes them happy

its a good track regardless of its spot on the top 40.... but of course being on the top 40 will always give it a bad rap with certain people..

we kinda figure this one out a long time ago
lol

tiesto's rmx sucks

Posted by whitesmoke on Sep-23-2002 04:58:

i think even oakie realizes that tiesto's remix is the best b/c when i saw oakie about 4 months ago he was playing the tiesto remix and not the original

Yeah, it was cheesy to begin with.

Tiesto's mix of Southern Sun is good no matter where it is on the top 40. Just remember where you heard it first...

The Tiesto mix was quite good for a while but its getting overplayed,
i have started to like the Gabriel & Dresden remix better, the bassline
is huge.

Don't like the Tiesto remix... but the orginal is awfull... So it's better tiesto than "that"

There's no question that it's going to be looked on as being shite by a certain elitist group of people in the scene, but I'd like to think that most people here will be able to continue liking or disliking the track on it's own merits, not merely because it is or isn't getting mainstream airplay.

I think Southern Sun was one of the better tracks of the year, I liked Rapture, and I also liked the Sound of Goodbye...so what if a some lucky mainstream radio/club-goers are finally getting a chance to hear the tunes? To my way of thinking that mainstream acceptance shouldn't change my opinion on it at all...

I'm not sure SS will become too mainstream, I don't think it's upbeat enough. Rapture - Iio possessed that catchy "la, la, la, la, la di da..." even though its still melancholy.

Has anyone ever heard Paul Oakenfold - Southern Sun (Solar Stone Chillout remix)? That's like the best one there is out there.

I believe that the Tiesto remix of Southern Sun is actually pretty good... I like the original as well! Call me an odd ball, but I think that it was a great song! It might be a bit heavy on the lyrics, but I think that is the heart and soul of the song. The synth and beat is pretty simple, but the overlay behind the words is what makes it such a nice song. It might not be the most unique or individual, but it sounds nice!

The Solar Stone mix *is* really top notch as well.

If you like that I recommend the "F2F Chill Mix" of Dust.wav as well...good stuff....

That's what I was thinking. In the time since Tiesto spun this track at DD i've played and so has he. I've heard it way too many times and I dont really care for it that much now. There sure was a lot of hype though when it first came out.

it would be cool if songs got mainstream play before they got trite, (yes i knoe it would get old faster) but like i would have loved to hear southern sun played way back when at clubs before the thousandth time i heard it
