Lightbulb a serious question about eggs

do you really give a shit if they are free range or from hen prison?

in the supermarket where my parents shop they only sell free range anyway, but maybe prison eggs are better ebcuase the hens arnt allowed to do what they want, like lay crap eggs?

your thoughts...

from consumers point of view ur gonna be getting better more quality eggs which is good. But animal cruelty issues are raised about how they are treated. But arent free range eggs more expensive?? to encourage people to buy free range they shud in theory be cheaper. I mean if ur on the dole, are u really gonna give a fuck. If ur tite for cash u aint gonna be wanting to spend more on eggs are ya.

No, nobody cares, it's just a marketing ploy and an excuse to charge more money.

I dont think it makes too much of a difference when it comes to eggs.

However, if you were eating the actual chicken, the free range chicken would likely be best. Think of it this way, free range livestock is able to run around a lot more, hence, having a leaner body. Since you eat that body, you intake less fat per kilogram. Non free range meats would be fattier, and not as healthy for you.

But eggs are eggs. the nutritional makeup would be very similar.

On an unrelated note, I want to know who looked at a cow's udders for the first time, got down on their hands and knees and said "I think Im gonna drink whatever comes out of this". Just the frail beginings of our farming industry I guess.

they prolly noticed how the calves were suckling... and decided that hey "if it's good enough for them, i think it can be good enough for me"

Posted by rupert on Sep-24-2002 08:59:

putting animals in cages that they cant turn around in or spread there wings is cruel.

Its that simple.

It doesnt matter that free range eggs are more expensive. If you find eggs are expensive if they come from free range birds, well Tough fucking luck, dont buy eggs. Battery cages should be outlawed.

Drunk

i wasn't aware that it was possible to have a seriouse question about eggs. :/

Posted by Ste on Sep-24-2002 14:18:

somebody told me once (Cant rememebr who) that scientists were trying to gentically engineer some sort of chicken which was just and egg laying machine, like it's body would act so to devote most of what it eats to just makin eggs, anybody heard the same?

i also heard summat about headless chickens that just lie there but still grow as they get pumped with food until they are eventually big and eatable.

I've heard about these.. i think they quite seriously trying to make these, but i think the results were a failure so they stopped the experience, for now.

aye, mind you the egg laying one is mean, but the headless on is ok, because they chickens have no "brain" as such so it woudl just be like growing a vegatable.

Accually what's the differend? the egglaying one and the headless one are not normalt chickens, i see no difference i i think both are wrong.

but if the animal does not hav a brain then it does not feel pain, and it does not hav any existance apart from being there. No emotions etc.. i dont see how it is wrong. Its the same with cloneing. If u can clone a human leaving out the brain so u can use organs to save other, how is that wrong? the human has no feelings, emotions again, etc so how is taht wrong. Same goes for the chicken

True... i just didn't understand why it's difference that you make a chicken without a head, and you make a chicken that made just to lay eggs.

Either way, it's still measing with nature, but really WTF should i care, i'm gonna eat it anyway, the only reason those chickens live anyway is to become food, but i think it's wrong if they feel pain doring there life.

with no brian wont the body be usless anyway? the organs need a brain to function. (or do u mean clone a human with no brain then stright away take the organs)

well i would imagine thats where technology comes in. The computer or whatever is attactched to the chicken controls its bodily functions... ie. Growth. I really dont no tbh. heh

And yea i meant clone a whole human without the brain... The reason this has to be done, is that scientists believe it is easier to clone a whole human than it would be to clone individual organs. fuk knows how that works but its true apparently.

so what came 1st ? The Chicken or The Egg ?

Posted by Technaut on Sep-24-2002 19:10:

yeh they basically have all the chicken all stored and they sitll stay alive ebcause theyre fed neutrians so their cells actually grow, they dont have any brain a such jsut part which produce hormones and other chimicals vital for grown, this way they dont move thus grow at an astonishing rate and are threrfore liek vegatables. so it cant be wrong.
