Hey Damn, what a surprise!

Gonna take a listen and enjoy the BPM

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Some comments on the tracklist while downloading at 190kb/s...

H.A.Z.A.R.D. - James Brown Is Dead
Yeah, heard Gary D play it at Mysteryland (Oldschool 1994)

DJ Dean - Play It Hard
Mr.Tunnel Trance

4 Strings - Diving
Cosmic Gate is starting to be better at remixing than producing

The Thrillseekers - Dreaming Of You (Flutlicht Mix)
Yeah kick ass!

Juergen Vries - The Theme
Englishman using a Dutch name hehe

Jam X & DeLeon Meets Tom Wax - Louder (Hennes & Cold Mix)
Great Hennes and Cold remix

DJ Tom-X - Cocaine
One of my favorites at the moment

Giada - Diamond (Technoboy Mix)
Italian hardstyle flavour

Arome - Hands Up
Have you been listening to me?

----------------------------------------------------------------------
75 minutes later, here's my honest opinion

You managed to mix some rough tracks (Dutch style) like James Brown is dead and TomX - Cocaine, and German 'happy' hardtrance (DJ Dean) together with the more 'classic hardtrance' from Dumonde. I can't do that Excellent technicially!

Unlike for example Kai Tracid, you don't slowly switch from slow to fast and back to slow again, but change styles more often during the mix. I noticed you always made the mixes * fast * slow/break * fast * slow/break * fast * from beginning to end. A speedwave in the form of a "W" so to speak

A very cool mix, except for that 'Insomnia' track.

Ps: are you moving away from the German happy hardtrance sound? I mean like Dean and Derler/Kitzling... The only track I really missed was Pacific Link - Rings of Jupiter (Luca Antonlini Mix)

9/10

Ps: 1991-1992 will rock

only 15kb/s, should be 100+ =) hehe

will post comments when i got the full mix!

greets from up north!

thanks for the long review JP!
Actually I am moving somewhere with my sound. I just find that the "normal" happy hardtrance often has too much vocals these days. It sounds too much like tracks by Jan Wayne and Marc'oh or DJ Nordkurve...(the sound that dominates german dance charts).
I want to get away from that style a little bit, but still be banging and jumping. This is the best I could do.
I will check out that "Pacific Link" track, haven't heard of it...

@all: thank you VERY much for the nice feedback

I DLed your mix from August and was terribly disappointed. There was a short batch of tunes that kicked ass,but apart from those tunes the whole mix was filled with blaring, cheesy shit tunes that nauseated me more and more for each tune that came out of my speakers.Despite the fact that I hated most of the tunes in this mix,the short batch of kickass tunes that it contained was convincing enough to give you a second chance. So I DLed this month's mix also.

And now I regret wasting my time on that.Cos this time around, the tracks are even worse.Apart from Derler & Klitzing and Louder/Softer(and I must admit that although cheesy as hell,I still like that HAZARD track),all the tunes are cheesy and blaring shit hardtrance, that I despise more than anything. And the fact that you've included a tune from DJ Dean makes me wanna throw up.Sorry man,but this is just pure shite IMHO.

Your mixing on the other hand,is top notch.Nicely queued except for one slightly rushed transition at the end.I'm not a particular fan of mixing tracks that fast when it comes to trance, but that's not the issue. The issue is your mixing skills, and there's nothing to complain about there.Sadly, this doesn't help much when I think the music you're playing is 95% crap.

Hope you don't get offended by this, but you say you wanted opinions, and well, this is mine.

quite harsh words from the "open minded" trance addict...

but it's ok. Seems to be a matter of tastes, and yours must be very different from mine.

oh about the "August" mix. There was none. If you are talking about the "RetroActive 3" mix, that's another story. That one doesn't represent my normal style as it only contained tunes from '94-'97 that were succesful in Hamburg's / germany's hardtrance scene back then.

quote:
all the tunes are cheesy and blaring shit hardtrance

that is really sad for me. There are so many people that appreciate this kind of music and ALSO like deep and/or prog trance...

Oh well, if you really didn't like it at all you don't need to bother on any of my future mixes, because they will all sound like this (has been this way since '94).
Thanks for the feedback.

I consider myself to be quite open minded, yes.I used to look down on hardtrance as a genre on the whole, but the likes of Uberdruck,Derler & Klitzing,Derb(except Derb - Derb, which I despise whole heartedly) and Hennes & Cold and a lot of others taught me otherwise. But I still have a major allergy to blaring, one sided tunes, and unfortunately, your mix is full of them.Hence,my interest dies pretty quickly.

You hit it right on the head.I wish I could've been nicer and complimented you,you have without a doubt worked hard to come as far as you have. And if there's anything I hate,it's slaughtering a fellow TAs work like this.I feel really bad.Honestly.But the tunes you play are just too crap for me to think otherwise.Sorry But then again,it's not like you're getting bad words in your face everytime your mix of the month is out...

You're absolutely right. The mix I was talking about was from July. That batch of tunes I mentioned reached from Thriller (DJ Isaac Mix) up to Donkey Rollers - Strike Again. This was the kickass part I mentioned.

Posted by jp on Sep-25-2002 17:24:

Sand Leeper doesn't like style. That's nothing to worry about cause taste is so personal. I do hope you find a style that isn't similar to many other DJ's, so we still can hear it's you playing. Most important is still the fact that you enjoy the tracks you spin. Having a style means playing what you like. If others like it, good! If not, well... there's always Britney Spears

In my opinion the speed of hardtrance will go up the coming months... yeah!!!

PS: did you like the Pacific Link song?

Posted by density on Sep-25-2002 21:39:

just got home from work, listening to your mix a bunch of times over the course of my shift... awesome work again dawn. seamless mixing, great tracks (most of them, =P). can't say i like all the tracks, but that's just a matter of my personal taste... great mix though, =P.

Hi,

Haven't really commented on one of your mixes previously, but I've listened to quite a few of them. This latest one is pretty nice, very energetic, excellent mixing.

My only beef is that you chipmunked "James Brown is Dead", but I suppose it's just a personal preference to hear it a bit slower.

Really good stuff, do you do this entirely with Vinyl, or mix in real-time on a PC?

mix awesome. Dawn keep up the good work and bring some more releases.

Posted by mikefasssy on Sep-26-2002 18:21:

Damnit dawn, your track selection is always one step ahead of mine. The records you order must come exactly 2 weeks before mine do! Killer mix, I love it, keep em coming.

And whoever said that they hate that Dj Dean shit should get a swift kick in the arse!!! Obviously you don't have any respect or experiance with hard trance, and dean is the master!
